I gotta say... Stogie's two long posts above are fucking tremendous.

I've often described things almost exactly the same way. My dad was a big fat racist- no bones about it. He grew up in Tuscaloosa, when Governor Wallace stood in the door to prevent the first black students from coming in the door.

I went to school with black kids all my life and never thought anything about it. If I am walking into a gas station and three black guys are walking out- you want me to tell you I don't get "spider-sense" for justa second???

I'd be a goddam liar. But it doesn't mean that intellectually I believe they are bad people. It means I'm realistic enough, and programmed by 1 million years of evolution, to be careful, and be aware of demographic truths.

It doesn't mean I dislike any person when I begin to have contact with them. That's why prejudice means PRE-judging. once you begin to interact with someone, you have the opportunity to afford them a starting level of respect, and I believe I do. I suspect Stogie does too.

To be prejudiced does not mean that one is a racist. Racism requires believing that some races are inherently less than others. This is a belief I do not have. This has nothing to do with instinctual reactions to people. If I go to Thailand, I will keep my wallet in my front pocket and a sharp eye on everyone. Not because I am a racist- but because I PRE-judge. which keeps me safe, alive, and with my cash.

This is the first time I have actually sat and read a thread as I would a magazine article, rather than cutting to the jokes and the pictures as I usually do.

One of the reasons I joined this forum is because of this kind of adult content, spirited debate is not degredation its the life blood of any mature and developing association of individuals. Exactly what part of that am I misreading? Apply your logic to yourself, not other people, as per my last post. And Grunyen, I do respect you, but you too are not reading very well now or are selectively reading.

For the comments on Imus, Seinfeld, et al. That is completely ridiculous. They grovel because they are in jeapordy of losing 10s if not 100s of millions of dollars and their entire reputation in their industries. You too would grovel at that. I have little doubt if the time came. It has nothing to do with manliness.
