More utter crap. You are saying that the cost structure of different businesses is irrelevant?

A mattress costs about the same everywhere, so you are saying the JW Marriot should charge the same for a room as the Nana Hotel?? And the Heineken that I buy at the Marriot bar should be 80 Baht as well. And 80 Baht at the Shangri La?

You misunderstood my point. My point is that there should not be such a business to begin with. And I am not talking about getting to this point by government regulations or anything artificial. Unless - which is not necessarily impossible - that drinking in these bars and watching LB dancing really provide some "entertainment" for some people - the bar business model is simply a middleman rip off and will "naturally" go away like many travel agents and so on.
Again, I did leave a possibility there - that bars truely have their own entertaining value. To me, they don't. But I will still go to bars because information age has not come to the P4P scene yet....

Bar owners are definitely taking advantages of TOURISTS, unfortunately I am one of them.

'Taking advantage of' and 'making a profit from' are 2 different things. I WANT them to make a profit from me.....that means the bars will be there in the future.

These middle-men should be eliminated but I kind of also agree it'll take time, some very long time. I think ATS website is kind of doing the job of eliminating them. Think about the familiar names here on sites. I bet 20 years ago you had to really be in Bangkok to even know the 3rd sex exist. Now, you get to jerk off to some of the best looking ladyboys in the world. It's "only" another 10 years from when we can just book our trip - including LB companies from lb-travelocity.com

Absolutely right that sites like this give an alternative to channel to meeting the lb's. The operative word for me is "alternative". I still want to go to bars as well.

Again, show me a different business model for the bars and I might give you some credibility. But just whining about paying 600 Baht bar fine is not very constructive.

These just reveal our differences. I don't like going to bars. I don't care much about bar fines and in fact, I do agree most things in Thailand are bargains.
Alternative business model? It's more of a different consumer model I rather have - I rather phone my girl directly, take her to a good Jazz bar (or music of my fancy at the time), have even more expensive food and drink. But this is not happening until all girls speak perfect English and we all have internet enabled cell phones.
BTW, we are not making suggestions to Thai board of sex tourism here (if there was such a thing ) So I am simply ranting about a situation I know will not change too fast. And my opinion is just mine. Not even try to win an argument here.
My stratagy is walking and eye surfing real quick. Say no to every one and just wave to the one I like. Once I get her I become deaf and blind when she go changing. All the flirtings is reserved for the hotel room.

I prefer to get my GGs from Ratchaphisek. When I want a beautiful woman, I go for Penthouse models and don't mind paying for it. I get treated like a king for an hour & 1/2 with NO drama.

I hate Nana, Soi Cowboy and Patpong. Rat traps.

Last year in Phuket went in "Picadilly bar" owned /run by some guys from Mansfield, as l used to work in Mansfield it was a good place to chat.

l am always wanting knowledge as l believe that it can give you power, and always helps when making a decision.

ANYWAY . .  .

From the owners perspective they DON'T want you to take girl from bar, if every girl leaves then you can say hello to an empty till at closing time ! ! !

GG in Phuket flit between bars and will leave the bar to go to another when one of their friends ring from another bar with many customers.

The bars have to make money, no money = no business, the same for the GG l/b's.

l agree with what has been said about Nana Cowboy and Patpong, but they are still in business, why should they bother to upgrade their decor and spend money ?

With regards to choosing a bar, l might be a cheeky twat but l have no problem in walking into a bar, looking around and leaving if it looks shit or girls l/b's look bored. l don't give a toss if l upset them by walking out without buying a drink.

Maybe l was lucky in having advice from my friend, l have never been overcharged in bar, never had a wallet lifted, and when l pay l tip what l want.

When l go in a bar and the attention starts l just tell them "HAA NATEE" and raise my hand and be firm with them, sit down and have a good look around. Buy myself a beer and have a look for anyone who takes my fancy and invite them for a drink ( but NOT lady drink ).

You guys who live in LOS should wake up and smell the coffee and  realise that a lot of people would give there right arm to be over there.

Oh and has anyone in Thailand ever found another use for Lime's apart from the urinal bowls ?

The comment reagarding the state of the rooms for short time is amazing.

As a traveller l would expect that l might be unlucky enough to finish up in such a place.

For someone who lives there not to know at least one good place to take a girl is un forgivable

I am slightly surprised by some of the comments in this thread, I am a reasonbly well travelled person & have been in the P4P game for the last 28-29yrs, I have yet to come across better value for money alround P4P entertainment on the planet, than in the LOS. Yes Angeles city is cheaper but not as big, The Dom Rep isn't bad, Brazil is Brazil. But non provide the alround package quite like the LOS in such quantity & choice. I like south America, but I keep coming back to the LOS.

The bar scene is much like the art world, some bloke slaves over a work of art takes it to a art dealer who marks it up 100 per cent. The artist walks away pissing and moaning, he did nothing, I created it and he takes the big money.
Well the dealer has the art gallery, has the clients, and does the marketing and as usual the artist doesn't have a clue about business.
Most things we want to buy have a middle man who appears to do nothing, but in most cases they take most of the risk.
