I pondered Manarak's comment too but I drew a different opinion than Mr Fox.

The choice of the word "weirdo" was unfortunate but I get his intention. It would be strange indeed for a normal male not to be attracted to a hot looking nubile.

I trust Naang Faa will give me a fairer hearing. I used the word "attracted" as in the sense of finding someone attractive, not meaning to suggest that we would all want to race off the youngest girl in the place.

Just because I stated we are programmed to like nubile hotties, it shouldn't be felt as a criticism by someone who finds these youngsters vacuous morons.

I can watch local cheerleaders with their joyful enthusiasm & toothy grins & while I find them attractive, there is no way I want to hang out with them & listen to their lame opinions on any subject.

I accept that a lifetime of experiences, good & bad, would cause the hard-wiring to mate with good looking partners to diminish with time, even switch it off completely with the cynics amongst us, but I stand by my "generalisation" that is an instinct we are born with.

Don't get stuck on the word "weird". And although it is not my mission to put my hand over what another BM said, do NOT forget that despite English being the language of communication on this board, not everybody is a native speaker and might use words believing they are correct but perhaps not knowing the full scope - above all there are different Englishes at stake here - American, Australian, British, Irish, etc.

What I actually try to say is that it frequently seems that the native English speakers run the show here and others are welcome to post pics and TRs but have less of a say when it comes to more serious matters.

Even more so, since this board became a pay-board (for some) I think it should be an international platform where different people and nationalities bring different things to the table. Instead of being quick in rejecting another persons opinion or view by perhaps nitty-gritting on words, phrases, etc. it might even broaden everybody's horizon to see things from a different angle - and I am not saying agreeing.

I know that such would be so much easier in normal life, because people do not jump at others throats over some misunderstanding, misinterpretation, etc.

Another solution might be that everybody posts in his native tongue and let all others babelfish- or google-translate whatever they said, let alone ment - that would be a mess.

So, do not forget, although a lot of the posters might speak and write what is considered excellent English when in real life-situations, there might be meanings and implications of meanings they might not be aware of unless having grown up in whatever country, area or even neighborhood.

Of course you can always tell me/us to f*** off if you feel that you don't want to put up with that type of tolerance or generosity. But I hope we can keep this respectful to each other.

As for weird, I believe that we are all normal, weird, strange, perfect and imperfect, when time comes - but I look at it from my perception of weird.

But in general I would say, having read posts on this board for years, that non-English speakers are much less inclined to lash out at posts, comments, posters - why could that be - serious question?

As for whether us english speaking persons are more easily riled I couldn't say. I only speak for myself. But I speak what I think.
Why are non-english speaking persons less likely to lash out? Possibly because they are not 100% sure they have the a full understanding of the post that has offended them, and therfore dont wish to embarrass themselves should they be in the wrong later. Fair enough too..

My post to Manarak was to Manarak, not you, Pacman, or anyone else. Band-wagon jumping refers to the fact that you and several others have rallied to his defence for little reason: my OP to him was neither intollerent or vicious.

I am sure Manarak being the highly intelligent, witty, well travelled and thoughful person he is can look after himself.

How did this get so complicated?

Chinaman started this thread to tell us of his experience with a Beach Road girl who was underage. Like the 1000's of others who continue to haunt the tourist areas of Thailand.

It was a fair warning for guys who may not be aware that there is a big disparity between what the law allows & the behaviour of exploitative parents who pack their kids off to start earning money.

I was told that in many villages it is a community decision, the prettiest girls are expected to do their bit & the whole place clubs together for the money, clothes, etc the girls need to start their new life.

Unimaginable in the west, it is reality for so many here in Thailand. It's a wonder that so many come through this lifestyle still sane.

Then the thread turned "weird". Manarak commented that not liking nubile hotties would be weird. I knew what he meant & I saw no harm in his comment. And I think English is his 4th language after French, German & Italian. Maybe he's fluent in Swisse-Deutsch too, that "weird" (whoops, there's that word again) 16th century dialect spoken by the Swiss.

One thing I didn't see was any BM being called weird. Weird by implication if one was looking to take offense but I was happy to support Manarak as I know him to be a reflective poster who makes a good contribution to the forum.

Well now he's bad for casting aspersions, I'm bad for daring to defend him, Chinaman is bad because....hmmm, he's just bad all the time. Apparently.
