Only the OP himself (I do not think herself would apply here) would know whether his post is true. I go by the benefit of the doubt, so I assume all posts are.

Leaving the legal issue aside, there is a big difference going with an obvious underage gg or lb or believing that the person of choice is over 18 and I mean truly believing and not conveniently believing. There is also a huge difference in my mind if someone specifically asks for a 13 or 14 year old or ends up with someone who is 17 and a half or a few days shy of becoming 18. But law draws a line at a certain age and there is one thing I would definitely not need - trouble with the law, neither here in Thailand, nor anywhere else. And less so, on such issue.

Of course pedos are not of one sort only. Some might really be disgusting and sick, others might come themselves from some troubled background. But this opens a completely different can of worms.

My intention for starting this thread was simply to tell people again - and I know that most of the known BMs here know - that one can never be careful enough. This girl didn't obviously look underage, but it turned out that she was and I am actually grateful she told me, because I might have ended up with her not knowing the full story.

Now here is an awkward one to ponder - in countries like korea they have a Korean age and a western age! This can be up to 2 years difference- so the 18 year old may be only 16 and so on! So when you enquire about the age of a cute young ladyboy ensure you are also aware of local customs! I'm not sure what other countries have this age quirk but anyone knows - feel free to let others know.

Geesh, if I had a 10-baht coin for every time some punter talks about a "friend of a friend" who got caught/nearly-caught in a "police scam", I'd be richer than Thaksin right now.

This thread is total bullshit, so let's deal with REALITY here for a moment, people:

1) 99% of the police in Thailand don't give a shit what you do, they don't even know you exist, and they could care less about your expressway-to-hell desire to check off every vice in the book.  They certainly are not dumb enough to mess with the cash-cow tourism industry by scaring away all the perverts.

2) 99% of the police in Thailand are not even remotely smart enough to pull of a "sting" as elaborate as the ones you hear about.  if they're going to shake you down for money, they'll just wait until you start driving...

3) 99% of the police in Thailand wouldn't lower themselves to associating with teenage transsexual prostitutes for ANY reason, even if it meant easy money scamming tourists.  You know NOTHING about Thailand if you think this is even possible.

We all hear about stories of farang getting stung by the police for drugs, underage sex, or breaking some lese majeste law. In almost ALL cases these stories are barstool bullshit and in the very few cases were these things do rarely happen, the details have been "embellished" to enhance the story or make the storyteller look "cooler" in front of his audience.

The fact is, most Thai police can't be bothered to mess with farang, simply because most Thai police are too busy shaking down THAIS, why on earth would they waste time and money going to AUA to learn English just so they can scam your smelly fat ass?  

There's plenty of money to be made from bar owners and working girls.  In fact, the way things really work is that the boss cop has an arrangement with bar owners to pay "X" amount each month in bribes.  This is then distributed amongst all the cops under the boss cop, and then they leave that business alone (not enforce closing times so strictly, look the other way on illegal activities like PROSTITUTION, etc...).  So the corrupt-minded cop is also the LAZY cop, which means he's not going to bother setting up an elaborate scam when he could just as easily sit back on his ass doing NOTHING.  Not only that, but fucking around with you would jeopardize the steady paycheck he gets from the bar owner (through the boss-cop). More importantly, messing around with tourists or customers in a bar would jeopardize his boss's paycheck, so please introduce me to the Thai who's going to do that, because I'd like to put his picture next to my photo of Bigfoot and Nessie.

Cops in Thailand get paid to NOT enforce laws, so why on earth would they go around working to set up scams that actually enforce the law??  Honestly, I don't know why all you people bite so easily on these fish-stories.  Perhaps because these stories feed into your "wild west" stereotype about Thailand, and so they "sound" true to your ears.

But sadly, while these stories make good urban legends to impress the newbies gathered around you at the bar, they have very little connection to reality.  Cops are in Thailand a lot lazier than you think, and these kind of scams are just not their style.  Think about it, when have you seen ANY Thai employee show the kind of initiative, creativity, and drive required to set up something like this scam??

Like I said, you'd have to understand nothing about Thai culture to even believe these scams are possible.  Individual, low-level cops aren't going to fart without asking their boss for permission, and high-level cops aren't going to sully themselves working with some lo-so katoey no matter how much money is involved.  The boss is going to get his money PROPERLY, ie: passed to him in an envelope each month while he drinks some Johnnie Walker Black Label and some coyote girl gives him a lap-dance at a thai-only karaoke bar.

THAT is how things are done in this country.

Oh, and for all you guys who think "checking IDs" is the way to avoid "trouble" in Thailand, I've got one word for you: "Hahahahahhahahahahaaahahaha!"

The thing that kept coming to my mind was that if this really was a problem, we'd have a lot of real-world examples to talk about rather than rumors or anecdotes.

Yes, men have been arrested and sent to prison in Thailand for having sex with minors. That's not the point, although it's certainly the point of this thread so far until Doug.

The point is that the chances of being entrapped by the cops and a rogue underage ladyboy are about as high as the chances your plane will crash on the way to LOS, or that you'll be struck by lightening on the tarmac, or that that hot Cathay Pacific stewardess will bestow a membership in the Mile High Club in the 1st Class Bathroom on the trip over. Yes, if you make a practice of seeking out underage children for sex in LOS, you may eventually find yourself facing repercussions. And if you make a practice of filming your sexual adventures in LOS and set up a website to distribute your videos, you may eventually find yourself facing repercussions.

But if you inadvertently patronize an underage prostitute or take some "holiday snaps" and videos for personal use, you'll probably find no one is going to be sending the Pattaya CSI team after you.

I'm not condoning underage prostitution, and I'm not saying you should be any less vigilante than you already are. I'm just saying this whole thread is a tempest in a teapot.

We need some personal experiences posted by guys who have been in trouble with the police. Telling us how they came to be in that situation & how it was resolved would be far more helpful than all the tales told in a bar by someone who knew someone.

I pondered Manarak's comment too but I drew a different opinion than Mr Fox.

The choice of the word "weirdo" was unfortunate but I get his intention. It would be strange indeed for a normal male not to be attracted to a hot looking nubile.

I did not mention age, I am only commenting on how the male of the species is hard-wired to be drawn to beautiful girls.

We can all agree that pedophillia is abhorrent but apart from the girl's ID card, just how can we tell a girl's age?

A case in point - a weekend rockfest put on every year by a bikie gang here in Oz, featured a beauty contest with the girls all dancing naked & the winner was selected by popular acclamation.

Back to LOS & I know it's wrong for anyone to pursue underage girls but we are the ones being pursued yet we carry all the responsibility if we are caught with a girl who appears to be legal, has a fake ID & has lied that she is over 18.
