Lady Drinks: The great debate!

I gotta agree with TC...You're paying for the lady and her time...And a drink or two and a tip is a very small price to pay...

At C & Ds the girls get 50Bt commission on lady-drinks, and is clearly shown both on the menu, and on the bin ticket. They can choose soft or alcoholic shorts, but not beer.
Bear in mind some of these girls get 10 - 15 lady-drinks a night! And you wouldn't want a pissed one to stagger over and plop herself next to you, would you?
And lets face it, the lady-drink is to pay her salary, the bar's expenses, and provide you with some lovely company for, maybe, half an hour. It often includes a grope - ffs, thats not bad for 140Bt, is it?
There's nothing more frustrating for a bar-owner than the customer who comes in and (reluctantly) buys a single drink, sits for an hour, and expects to get a free grope and a phone number for later!

Saw Sam on his last night and he explained his specific pricing:

Normal price
Beer 80/90
Spirits 100
Bacardi Breezer 100
Mixers/Juice 40 (coke, lipo, juice, tonic, soda, water)

Happy hour
Beers and Spirits (above) -20 Baht so beer 60/70 Baht, Spirits 80 Baht
Other drinks are normal price.

Lady Drinks - standard drink price plus 30 baht
Normal hours examples
Coke 40 + 30 = 70
Breezer 100 + 30 = 130
Beer Singha 90 + 30 = 120
Gin or Vodka Tonic 100 + 40 + 30 = 170 If you are also drinking Gin/Vodka you can share the Tonic so your total 'bill' is 270

No discount on Lady Drinks in Happy hour.

Sam's objective was to allow the Lady to have a real drink and not some watered down coke/juice in a glass full of ice!
Many Ladies do not drink so will have a Coke/Juice/Soda/Lipo and the customer pays 70 Baht. Many enjoy a Breezer so that is 130 Baht.

Before a Lady Drink (Coke/Juice) was 120 Baht. Now it is more open and clear. You are 'tipping' the Lady 30 baht to sit with you and drink.

Sam did make one other comment. If the staff start to become intoxicated he may impose a rule that they may NOT have alcoholic drinks until 22.30!!

What about the issue of lady drinks once you have paid the bar fine. What is the bar owners stance on that?

yes, a tricky one, that! We leave it to the girl and her customer to sort out. I have to say that mostly the girls will expect the lady-drink price, although if a long-term customer, they will waive the commission and pay normal price.
And i cannot recall ever having a problem in that department. Guys are generally agreeable to their girl getting a few extra 50Bts on top of whatever else has been negotiated.

At that point the girl is NOT working FOR the bar as the customer has already paid the bar (barfine) so why would they/you expect lady-drink price?

From the CUSTOMERS perspective: The girl is now on her own clock. Barfine paid, (bar out of the picture) and she is now being paid by the customer.    That the bar continues to receive income from your customer and the girl is a lucky coincidence.  All paying customers, especially those with drinking guests are surely great customers.

But, as i said earlier, the question of ladydrink price or regular price is between the two of them. in some cases it can work out better to buy lady drinks;
eg 2 bacardi Breezers at regular price = 300 Bt
2 ladydrinks at LD price = 280 Bt
That should appeal (especially) to our Australian customers, surely?

But most guys really dont worry about tossing in the extra 50Bt for the girl's benefit. Its a trifling amount, for the company of a sexy lady, isn't it?

This thread might be better to have named and shamed those bars that charge exorbitant prices, eg 200Bt +, for ladydrinks, rather than whine about the 30 - 50Bt commission.

I've bought numerous drinks for the girls in my past couple visits and I don't care at all if they drink them or not - only thing that would bother me would be if she took off the moment I spent the money.

They get many drinks over the course of the night and these girls have to consider calorie consumption. A lot of small Cokes can add up.

Sorry Jimbo but I think you might have missed the point nobody is whining about 50 baht.

I agree with Torurot in that once the bar is paid the girl is just another customer. Nothing stopping the customer to walk across the road and buying drinks at any other bar where she will not get any commission.


I actually think it should be a bar policy rather than between customer and girl.

We buy drinks only for those people we choose to buy for... Ladies or fellow drinkers, it's our choice full stop..

That said, to those people who spend the night groping the girls or 'talking' to them and who dont buy a (or several) drink/s, you are not only cheap fucks, but also embarrassing to watch... It's actually kind of painful to see the girls hoping against hope they will get a bf at the end of it, and then not..

We might be freaky, but the way we roll is, if we're gonna take up a girls time 'chatting' the least we can do is buy her a drink...

While we dont usually go the grope at the bar, if we do, it'd only be as a lead up to paying a bar fine... Call us weird if you's want...

Hmmm - I have mixed feelings.

In the past when the bar charged 120 Baht for a small glass of Coke/Orange Juice watered down with Ice I think that when you pay BF then the Lady is a 'customer.

IF the bars move towards a regime of paying +30/50 Baht on a normal drink then I think, if you stay in that bar, then that is OK.

There are a number of issues.
1) The Lady is now getting her commission on top - fair enough she must live.
2) The bar is NOT making more money for every drink
3) There is a hidden agenda - many bars require a monthly quota - to get salary they must hit quota.
(So if you buy more drinks + comm you are helping her hit quota)
4) BF is now the only way for a bar to make money - they cannot survive on drink sales alone.

So IF a bar gives a real drink they are not making the 70+ Baht they were before on LadyDrinks.
The customer cannot expect to win all ways.

If the bars go under (because they do not make any money) then we are left with the street walkers - food for thought!

As many have said, in this new regime/idea, you have the choice - go to another bar. However maybe the LB wants to sit with you longer to see how she feels with you.

2 cents worth. Jim from C&D knows he can get lots of customers:
Free drinks
No BFs
No commission on LDs

The only problem is that he closes the bar - now where do you go....

Think about it! Do you buy a car and assume that the garage now is liable for all your gas bills?
