rocky1, I think no one has answered your originally posted question because either they don't want to admit they've done the same as you, or they don't do it. Anyway, after a lot of debate it is good to see that you are able to come through relatively intact.

Actually the strategies you tried were the right ones, however, as you discovered the lb network is very effective at locating customers. I truly hope that you won't be doing this again your next LOS visit, or you may end up like these 3 tourists:

Pattaya, Chon Buri - Police arrested three Italian men and a Thai woman at a drug party in this seaside town less Friday night.

They were arrested at a rented room in Southern Pattaya at 15 minutes after midnight. Police found 0.3 gramme of crystallised methamphetamine and 20 gramme of marijuana inside the room.

The tourists were identified as Davide Migliorero, 38, Davide Tomasi, 28, and Caroselli Loca, 31.

The Thai woman, Orwan Juminorn, 24, said one of the men took her from a bar on Pattaya Walking Street, where she works, to the room.

They were charged with having narcotics in possession for abusing.

While I would say what rockstar did was stupid, risky and not in his best interests I wouldn't go as far with some of the theories on here. I believe that the guy has made a mistake.

Doug may be rated as the best in holding his own on the forum but there were a fair few  comments that were out of order IMO.

There is absolutely no need whatsoever to start to bad mouth someone's mother. You actually deserve a swift jab for that, there is no need for cheap shots.

The first post that you made you called rockstar a junkie. I have known a few in my time and from what  rockstar is writing he does not even come close to being one, although this can only be decided upon if you were to meet him in for a prolonged period.

Also, you blatantly label all from the UK uneducated - cheap shots like that just bring you down to the gutter with the rest of the trash.

Pacman makes a good point.  Rocky's held his own fairly well (I still kicked his ass, though , hahah!).

As for Joe's remarks:

- I did call him a junkie, but I was including adrenaline in that, not just drugs.  Anyone who seeks out "thrills" or "stimulation" without regard for the consequences or the impact on other people is a junkie.  Period.  Junkies don't care about the rescue people who have to pull their ass out of a canyon and they don't care about the friends and family left behind.  The only thing they care about is finding their next high.  Drugs or "adventure", it all amounts to the same thing.

- I didn't say everyone in the UK was uneducated.  However, you do have to admit that the UK is represented in Thailand by a large percentage of its "lower classes".  I'm not sticking my nose up at anyone (I've washed dishes and mopped floors for a living too).  I'm just stating an obvious fact.  Just look at the difference between Pattaya and Hua Hin.  On one side of the Gulf, you have Hua Hin, where all the Swedish and Japanese tourists hang out with their wives and families.  Sure, a bloke can go to Hua Hin and get up to the same kind of trouble he can find in Bangkok or Pattaya, but you have to admit he looks a bit freakishly out-of-place whereas in Pattaya, he'd blend into the crowd.

Again, I'm not sticking my nose up at people.  I'm just saying that Thailand attracts different kinds of people from different places for different reasons.  When the Chinese think of Thailand, they think of a cheap, safe place to stay that's close to the casinos in Cambodia.  When the Swedes think of Thailand, they think of white sand beaches and a 20,000B a night (cheap!) spa on a mountainside.  When the Burmese think of Thailand, they think of a rich country full of opportunity and jobs.  And if you're honest, you'll have to admit that when Brits think of Thailand, they think of a low-cost destination for sex.  So that's going to attract a certain "class" of people, and when they get here, they are going to attract exactly the same kind of trouble that lands them on Jeremy Kyle back home.

Slag me off for being a snob, but take a look around the average pub in Pattaya and you know I'm right.  I'm making a generalization, of course, and all generalizations are inherently flawed.  There are plenty of "high class" businessmen who make excuses to travel here for the sex, and there are plenty of "low class" workers who come here for spiritual enlightenment.  But that's not the point, and in spite of all the exceptions, you'd still have to admit that the average Brit here is less educated than the average Swede.  

Not that they are bad guys!!  I recently met an English guy who moved to Thailand to marry some girl he met on the internet.  His accent and slang were so horrible, that I couldn't understand his English at all.  In fact, we actually had an easier time talking to each other in Thai!! So, he was clearly uneducated.  However, he'd only been in Thailand six months and his Thai was already better than mine, and he was starting on Chinese.  So NOT a dumb guy.

So by "uneducated", I don't mean "bad or worthless person".  I mean "not having a quality education".  Period.  No slur is intended by that, except perhaps against the UK school systems.  And it is an unfortunate fact that "uneducated" people often get themselves into hot water when they really should know better.  Jeremy Kyle and Jerry Springer have no trouble finding guests for their shows, do they?

Case in point, those Italian tourists that rxpharm just pointed out.  Three guys who are now at the "mercy" of the Thai "justice" system all because they wanted to get high in a hotel room with a prostitute.  EXACTLY the kind of situation Rocky put himself into.

So I may be a bad guy for pointing this out in harsh terms, but I'm also right.  What Rocky was doing was just about the dumbest possible thing you can do in Thailand.  He'd be better off jumping on his Fireblade and doing wheelies down Sukhumvit Road.

There are two ways to get an education in this world: Parents/School and the "School of Hard Knocks".  Most of us expats have been through a bit of both, and so we look at what Rocky's doing and say to ourselves, "Been there, done that." or "Know better than to EVER do that."  Either way, we've "graduated" from that wild scene and like I said before, adventure makes a great story, but the reality of it sucks.  

So we look at what Rocky's doing and say, "Boy, you're an idiot."  And like a surly teenager, he hurls back, "Aw! Mom! I'm just trying to have fun!"  But once he grows up a bit, he'll realize that we were right all along, and he'll be telling the next generation of whippersnappers that they're all idiots too.

It's the Circle of Life, like in the Lion King, only with more make-up and cocks.

Punctuate! Spell!  Is that too much to ask?  The occasional typo or misspelled word is one thing, but for crying out loud, you're not a teenager tweeting from your phone! Is it too much to ask for you to use the SHIFT key and periods every now and then?

There has been a marked increase in in intolerance for Americans & all things American since the previous Administration in the US left behind so much damage around the world. I have witnessed first hand here in Oz the change of heart.

It is hardly fair on our American members who shouldn't have to wear the blame for such incompetence but it will take time before the distrust goes away. Obama will need to match the hype surrounding him for things to improve. (Though just the fact of his election was a huge step in the right direction.)

Until then, Americans find themselves an easy target...

That's still a lot of people who can't be taught any better and who endorse the crimes and felonies committed by the bush administration.

Yes, Obama has a lot of work to do, and he has to prove the USA will confine illegal actions back into covert action secrecy.

One good, symbolical step would be to stop taking fingerprints from tourists.

That seems to be what I would call the "Joe Six-Tooth" demographic in that it's virtually the same percentage of the American population that believes in ghosts, ufos, witchcraft, astrology, etc.,....
There's this baseline 25-35% that will believe anything that's packaged cleverly by TV or magazines & common sense or logic will never dissuade them.
And lets face it, how many people want to admit they were wrong, or tricked? Not many of us, er... I mean THEM!

I have to admit I have participated in such actions once but wouldn't do it again as I was shitting myself during the entire time I was with the two LB bargirls. I was actually happy when they fucked off and left the hotel. Fortunately I was only in Pattaya for 3 nights and this was my second. In saying this the girls were fine and never hinted at using blackmail.

My opinion:
The risks out-weigh the benefits and even if you can pay your way out of it do you really want to throw away that sort of cash?
