Short Times Long Times and Hard Times

I think the ST and LT rates have been adequatley explored around here but I am seeking a few clarifications  

It seems pretty quiet around Nana these days. Is this driving the prices down and if so, what would the current acceptable rates be ? I am also thinking Guess Bar for e.g and some of the more 'popular' girls. Are they immune to the downturn ?

A final query would be about the late night bf and particularly in the current climate. If you get back to the room after midnight, would they still usually opt for the cab home at 2am or could that convert to an over-nighter 6 am dash for the door ?

Anyway, times are hard for many of us so just wondering what the BM's thoughts are on the above ?

Ignore Stogies reaction.  These are fair questions for the very infrequent visitor to Thailand.  Unfortunately there lies your problem.  

Without experiencing the 100 or so variables that come into play and really understanding what they mean then hard and fast rules don't exist.

Personally I have had free offers to expensive offers.  I have paid 500THB to 1500THB in Bangkok for short time plus bar fines with the experience ranging from poor to fantastic.

A far better strategy is to set your limits, develop your sense of judgement by observing and asking key questions, establishing some rules and then hunt, hunt, hunt...

Thais don't actually think the same way we do...

I normally buy my fruit at the little market running along the parking lot at Mike's Shopping Plaza...Even though it's a bit touristy and the prices are a bit higher than other places...it's convenient...

I normally pay 25 baht for a package of 4 bananas...The other day I wandered by and lo and behold at each and every stall the 25 baht bananas are now 40 baht bananas...That's how some Thais think...
When business is bad raise the price to make up the difference...

I'm afraid that holds true with some of the "bananas" in the ladyboy bars as well...

That's absolutely true. Seen that happening in Hong Kong as well,a nd other countries in Asia share the same mentality.

For the non frequent traveller to Thailand the scam is just around the corner, so don't think you enter Obsession and they know you because you go there 5 times a week so can get the best deal. If going there 5 times a week gets you the best deal

I've almost given up with this ST, LT and so on after having had a bit too many worthless experiences.

So, establish a realistic target which makes sense for you, and try not to stray from there.

Well the OP was really a way of discussing whether the current downturn (evidenced in Thai Tourist Board numbers and forecasts) was having any impact on the local LB scene and pricing.

I guess as looktoyou Looker and Snick have noted it's horses for courses as it were. That's pretty much what I expected but it's interesting to hear other perspectives.

Kahuna, do you have a banana fetish ? Sad to see that price rise and I fear a flow-on effect at Nana.

I suspect that in his 'ivory porn king tower' Stogie is immune to these fluctuations, hence his rather jaded post....

looktoyou has given excellent advice. Many Thais do not see this from a world wide perspective - they are just looking at how it affects them and their families. Most don't a hoot that 4 million are unemployed in the US now, or that almost every company is slashing workers, etc. The bottom line is what is going on for them.

Don't expect always expect a discount from the regular rates at this point in time. If however this recession/depression drags on for more than a year, which I expect, things may change.

However, as Snick mentioned there will likely be more flexibility with some of the ladies, depending on a number of factors.

Well, strocube, it has to be all in the right persepective. I'm sure for the average oil worker who has been in Saudi or on a rig blasting away 1000 USD in one night is probably nothing, and it will be well appreciated and perhaps deserved too giving the harsh life condition he had.

I think here we are not talking about sex starved individuals who has to accept any price at any condition. Also, cannot compare western prices with asian prices. In Thailand a local meal by the street, which is what 90% of Thai people has daily, cost a quarter than a coffee in Oslo, the most expensive city in the world, and 1500 baht is almost one week of salary for an average factory worker.

So, before calling people cheap fucks you should put everything in the right perspective

Personally I think there will be no change, it will neither go down nor up, they will ask for what they normally ask for. They will simply find that there will be less occasions per month than norm, and jacking the prices up, will be even lesser occasions.

The majority of folks that go to LOS, are wise with their money, and in these hard times even wiser, he who pays the bucks, calls the shots.

The 25 baht banana's....... did you turn around and notice how many buses where parked there for the Japanese and Koreans.

They do that all the time, and see them changing the price in one afternoon, when they get word there will be a shit load of buses coming that day, then changing it back late that evening, or the following morning, the name of the game was 'making a quick killing.

Sure we bar owners (not me personally) jacked the price up on the drink as soon as an American fleet came in, and always in low season, for the 4 days they were there, then put the prices back to normal as soon as they leave. It use to be a godsend, 'make a quick killing', and kept us afloat through the low season. I will explain about this more later in my thread.
