Yes Stewart, we should applaud them for being out front with their identity. If Philippine society will accept transgenders, and I think it will, then legislative recognition will follow at some point in time, hopefully.

      If Philippine society...
Machismo based societies will always lag 50 years behind Thailand.

America, the PI and most of Europe have no chance of competing with Thailand as far as social integration is concerned. They just don't want it and they don't have the tolerance for the minority that do. Thailand does.

thailand is exceptional by virtue of being both non-colonized and buddhist. the vast majority of the world is ruled by islamic or christian religions which, by scripture, believe homosexuality is a perversion and a sin -- not karmic, not biological, but an act of volition transgressing the will of their god. to the fundamentalists who more and more rule those warring worlds, to "accept" transsexuals would be to approve of a lifestyle that is destined for damnation.
        not too damned likely.

That is an excellent and accurate point thaibound. In the Philippines, church and state are not so separate and legislation would have an uphill battle. Having said that however, and with my knowledge of the Philippines, social acceptance, that is, acceptance by the people is already occurring. Stewart, as for the staring, they are staring at you as much as at the ladyboy you have in tow. I have felt that as well just walking through SM MegaMall by myself.

Just to bung in my ten pence worth for the

Transgender discrimination is now illegal along with racism, ageism and sexism and is in fact specifically mentioned in the anti discrimination enabling bill that joined all of the previous legislation on age, sex etc into one piece of law.

Thats not to say that prejudice does not exist, there is no legislating against ingnorance and malice, but I for one am pround to live in a country where a pub can advertise a "Trans and Fans" night and not get bombed, picketed or raided.

Amazingly the most common problem for transgendered workers tends, according to friends of mine who work in the health service (in other words PI nurses) to be the issue of which toilet to use. They say they should use the Ladies and the women want them in the Gents but thats hardly a brain stopper in a large organisation.

Discrimination is how little people with a bit of power get their kicks, its not pleasant but it happens everywhere and not just to transgendered people.

              Your right Harley Quinn,
Even insulting TS's in now considered a hate crime.
Saying that, every change in the law was gained in the courts in the UK
and Europe not through the understanding of the government..
But laws alone do not make for a better life, unfortunately it's a sad fact
that most western TS are shall we say..erm..obvious,and the misunderstanding
and stigmatization that go's with it makes many TS an easy
target for the narrow minded.Laws won't change peoples fears or prejudices,
only people themselves can do that. We are few and far between here in the UK
when you consider the numbers in Thailand (i have never seen another one in
my neighborhood) so it is not something that enters most peoples lives.

My own personal experiences since i came home has been 100% positive,
I kept all my friends and family made more friends than my sim card can handle,
but every person here understands why i still choose to live in Bangkok-
I love my Thai friends, they know exactly what i've been through, safety in numbers,
the general public in Thai show more understanding to what they see everyday,
it's nothing new to them-some may show indifference towards us but we rarely
feel threatened-the only thing the locals around Huay Kwang notice is my ethnicity
              rather than my transexuality.
Thailand people are way ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to the
acceptance and tolerance of their ladyboys, unfortunately the law is way behind..
but,it is far quicker to change laws than to change a whole nations view of TS.
......we are just people trying to make better lives for ourselves.

                  Hi Stogie Bear,
Thank you,it's an absolute pleasure to find a site where
like minded, open minded people can share their views, spill their hearts
out and gossip (and argue) about these special girls..
I may disagree with some of the BM's postings but i do have
admiration for any guy who doesn't have a hang up about how
                  they feel about ladyboys....
I will try to contribute more but my experience is limited,
Anyhoo, to all you guys merry christmas, happy hunting, stay safe!

                    Can i just add...
                    Ladyboy movies...we enjoy them,
Hor teaw taek,Plon na ya,Ghost station
i don't think there is a single movie we not go to see,These movies are aimed for us not
at us,we can take a joke.
But a couple of the girls (thinking of the prospect of a female legal status) believe
the screaming queen types are just boys with boobs and should not be granted
female status..so even the discriminated can discriminate.
