(rxpharm @ Aug. 26 2007,05:11) Here is an old post from 2005 that covers a range of restaurants, Thai and others. A few may have changed, since it is two years old, but most of the good ones are still there. I have tried the Polo Fried Chicken Restaurant near the Lumpini Police Station and it is really tasty, and very cheap!

    Awesome. Thanks.

There is a place in Thonglor, soi 55 not far from Sukumvit Rd. almost next to the 7-11 that is touted as the best pad thai in Bangkok. It is the unique and exceptionally light, fluffy egg technique that scores with me.

If you want some good greasy comfort food...Bullys on Suk next to the JW Marriott (between Soi 2 & 4) is great...

Sausage and mash, shepherd's pie, cheese burgers, great breakfast., etc...and they have Newscastle...

And the kebabs on Soi 1 are still the best.  OK not a restaurant ... but you did mention comfort food, kahuna!

Unfortunately Steak One in Soi 4 closed down, but Charlies - next to Dynasty Inn - is a very convenient all-purpose stop too (try the crab wanton soup!)

Yes the wonton soup is very good at Charlies. So is the Katsu curry and club sandwhich.

I had not realised Steak One closed down until last week when I was taking my date there and when we got there it was closed.

Anyway don't you mean the kebabs on soi 3 and not soi 1?

There is a good German place on soi 1 called Tilac ate there a few days ago and the lentil soup was really good and the Steak was not too bad either for the price.

Had a nice enough meal the other day at Shahrazad in Soi 3/1 with Snick & Rxpharm.

Whilst basically a Halal restaurant serving Middle Eastern & Indian inspired food, the menu was quite extensive and the food was good and a pleasant change.

Make sure your date is wearing their hijab, and don't expect any alcohol.

                Shahrazad Restaurant: 6/8 Sukhumvit 3/1, Bangkok. T: (02) 251 3666

Yes I have eaten there before as well with Snick. Good food and yes a very big menu but many things on the menu are not available it seems. I remember asking for about 4 or 5 different things before finding something available that day.

What you really mean is, that after 4 or 5 hours of drinking at Big Dogs or LL, I'm the only one sober enough, hungry enough or stupid enough to make the walk...

Damn one would taste good right now...

                          See ya soon...

Actually, since I am working in the Middle East I don't usually try these restaurants in Bkk, but I have to say the food was tasty and the company good (Snick and Koykaeng).

While I am at it, I can highly recommend a Japanese and Asian Buffet restaurant called Oishi Grand, located in the Siam Discovery Building. I have taken a few lbs there (dates and friends), and all have been very happy with the food there. It is not just the regular buffet, as they will also cook to order several varieties of fresh fish, beef, chicken, and pork.
