  • Restaurants in BKK

One of TTChang's great pleasures in LOS is Thai food     Although I eat quite often from street food stalls, and food courts, I enjoy the aircon restaurant experience - especially when meeting up in BKK with other guys from this forum and their dates.

'Steak One' (soi 4) is good & a regular venue for the ATS force.... But my 3 favourite Thai Food restaurants around Sukhumvit are:-

    Rosabieng (Soi 11)
    Oam Thong (Soi 33)
Thai House (above Foodland Soi 5)

And...if you can find it, over near Silom / Si Phraya...'Harmonique' is great too.

Plenty of other suggestions, I expect, guys?

Must say one of my favourites is the Landmark.

Good Dim Sum available 24hrs, and nice to sit outside and watch the world go by.
    Bit Pricey though for Bangkok.

Great Dim Sum Buffet also at the Sofitel on Cowboy.

Best Sushi in Patpong in Japan Town, will look for the name of the place.
seriously pig headed, arrogant, double standard smart ass poster!

I tried going there once but couldn't find it!

        Buscarum (spelling) is pretty good.

Go down Suk.Soi4 almost to the end, you can see the tobacco exchange gate, there is a restraurant that specializes in duck. Setting there on Sunday you see a lot of fancy cars pulling up to get soup. It is on the right side also has an upstairs a/c room.

For location I know nowhere better in Asian than the Vertigo restaurant in Bangkok Vertigo.

The downsides being that the menu is very much aligned to western tastes and you will need to book a table 2-3 weeks in advance.

For some reason you will find that most of your terak's will much prefer to try to catch their own food 'on the hoof'
Herself likes to go fishing at the seafood restaurant next to the Ratchada Cabaret.   You don't have to rely on catching your dinner fortunately
The food is good  -  it's all freshly cooked and although relatively expensive for Thailand is still about 1/3rd the price of the UK (1/2 US prices).
Anything she catches can be taken home as a bonus.

If it's your scene you can take in a ladyboy cabaret before or after your meal.

Plus the Hollywood disco is a short walk across the road so if you find your terak's table manners are lacking you can probably find a replacement in the disco
The cover charge is 400 Baht per person as I recollect.

If you like Thai music as well as Thai food I have only one recommendation Tawan Daeng

We have the advantage that it's only 5 minutes from Herself's apartment - but even if it was 30 minutes it would still be our joint first choice.

                Mali.

It's in Sathorn Soi 1. Tiny eclectic sort of place owned by an older Canadian and his Thai chef partner.

Excellent - in my opinion - Thai food . Generous portions/reasonably priced.

Comfortable and unpretentious eg. no problem with shorts and sandals (nice ones though); but not the place to show up falling down drunk with a TG/LB.

Yuk Yor is also very good, it's across the river. As you cross the bridge from, I believe Sathorn, look down you can't miss it. I fed the girlfriend, her kids and a few more about 10 of us for less than 50 dollars.
Also try the German Club this last trip was the first time there. They have a micro-brewery on site and the Thai food is good wasn't impressed with th german food, beer was good. I believe on Rama 3 very popular with entertainment if you go try to find the ladyboys on the stage.

Samboon for Seafood. Four Locations in Bangkok, I usually go to the one on the corner of Ratchada and Huai Kwang ( right on the subway exit ).

For a quick lunch The food courts at MBK (on 6th floor) and Platinum Mall are both very good

                       That reminds me

Another food court is at  Central Chidlom This is a really classy location and the prices are pretty good.

We fell over it by accident.  The down side is it's so popular that at times there are queues though you usually only have to wait 5-10 minutes.

I see from the link they have a new one at Latphrao.

Great list... I'm taking notes. Any other "must eat" restaurants or spots to try out in Bangkok?

Here is an old post from 2005 that covers a range of restaurants, Thai and others. A few may have changed, since it is two years old, but most of the good ones are still there. I have tried the Polo Fried Chicken Restaurant near the Lumpini Police Station and it is really tasty, and very cheap!

There is an Italian/Thai restaurant on Sukhumvit soi 24. Very good food. I can't remember the name but the restaurant is in the plaza with Starbucks next to the Davis hotel and across the street from the President Park Hotel.
