  • Stayed a the PBR my last 3 visits and have another scheduled for September. 999 baht and one free night. I like the central location. Works fine for me and is clean and adequate. I always take care of the maids for extra towels. Sure there are nicer places but this just works for my budget. Never wake up in time for breakfast so cannnot comment on that.

    • ok, I will probably book the PBR for my stay in July.

This question is not meant to be provocative, but how secure is the PBR?
Would you leave something valuable (expensive laptop or camera) in your room?

      • They have room safes - I can't imagine there would be a problem leaving things, but why put temptation in someone's way ?
You men eat your dinner, eat your pork and beans
I eat more chicken, than any man ever seen, yeah, yeah

        • PBR is OK, except for the beds, hard like rock.

          • The have room safes and you have to use your key for security to get to the elevators. I've left my laptop in the desk drawer (I have a cheap old laptop), though I probably would not advise doing that.

            • A simple solution for the laptop is to put it in your luggage and lock it before you leave the room. Out of sight, and reasonably secure.

              • I always left my laptop on the desk in the room when I left. It is a 5 year old one by now, but still. I always felt that the PBR was very safe. Other valuables go into the safe, of course, but I sometimes left it running as it was still downloading some stuff.

I don't know whether anyone ever had anything stolen there ...

                  • Are there also security boxes at the reception or just in the rooms?

                    Comment

                    • I mailed the hotel and they answered that they can't keep anything at reception:

In reply to your questions: Our safes in our rooms are not large enough for a laptop. We do not have any other secure storage area for laptops. Please note we have an excellent security system; 24 hour security guards, 24 CCTV cameras, laser cut door keys which cannot be duplicated and a security acces door to the guest floors requiring a digital access card.

                      • As rxpharm said, hiding and locking yr laptop in yr suitcase should be enough of a precaution. Nevertheless I always thought that the PBR appeared very safe, also due to its location a bit off the beaten track.

Perhaps Stogie knows from talking to Kim whether guests had anything major stolen there but I kind of doubt it.

                        • The last 3 times I stayed in PBR my netbook was on the table all day long. Okay, it's not too expensive, but new and easy to carry. Nothing happened.

Never heard from other guests that something was stolen.

                          • I've always left out my computers and cameras, etc. Obviously; cash I hide away. Cash is too much of a temptation for many people and it makes no sense to leave it lying around.

It's unlikely Kim would confide in me that something had been missing from a room as he knows I'd be bound to mention it here. That said I think that if it has happened then it's been very rarely.

The PBR is a great job for Thai people. The atmosphere is relaxed and serene. I get the impression that for the workers, it's probably not worth the hassle to be caught stealing here.

(They would be caught too, as there are security and cameras everywhere!)

My advice is to be naturally cautious but not obsessive at this hotel.

I'd be very surprised to hear about someone who had property stolen from there.

It might be considered a generous tip ;-)

Ok, that's a nice detail I didn't know about before.

I am mainly concerned about my laptop, since I need it for work.
If there are cameras, there is no way one could get away unseen with my lappie, it is too big.
