Last Dec/Jan was my first time in Pattaya and stayed in the Marriott resort a few blocks from the walking street.. needless to say I was spoiled...room service, great room, LB friendly, great stay...but...A bit expensive, about $180 USD per night...I'm heading back again this holiday and would like an upscale hotel, centerally located but not so expensive...I've tried twice to get a room at the Areca Lodge, which seems to be really nice but totally booked...I'll be there from 23 - 30 Dec....any suggestions??

Flight Centre is advertising stay 3 nights pay for one at Dusitt Pattaya in June and July 07. 6 nights in double room with free mini bus pick up from airport is quoted at $300 aus for the 6 nights. Thats around 8000 baht for 5.5 star accom , transport and buffet breakfast. I have booked 12 nights. I like the place. suits me fine.

If you take your girl through the front door, 700 baht has to be handed over. On the Beach Rd side there is the office for Thai Airways and a small gate through to the pool. I always go through that gate. Sometimes their is a guard and 100 baht will get you in. Its a nice resort with a fantastic pool over looking the bay. It has a dive in bar where you sit and enjoy the view and drinks . They give you huge towels for the pool and also free flip flops to walk around in. The mini bar is good value and there is a liquer store directly across the road and you are only a 10 minute walk to Tescos or 5 mins to Big C. The restaurants are around 500baht main course but compared to Western prices are very good value. The buffet breaky is good, not the best i have had but plenty of choice for you and your girl.. The Dusit is located at the Dolphin roundabout so it is not that badly located. It is very quite, very clean, pretty laid back and I would rate it up there with some of the best resorts in Asia or Australia. Any Aussies who have ever stayed at Sheraton Resorts in Oz will know what I am comparing. any of you guys who want to spalsh out on a bit of high living you will probaly not do better then the Dusit.

Just another observation. Most of you guys can book through Flightcentre.com I know a lot of you guys have regular haunts but during April 31 thru to Oct 11 most of the 4 and 5 star places through Flightcentre offer pay for one get 2 nights. So when you do the math you can stay at places such as Dusitt, Siam Bayshore or similar for about the same price you pay for Flipper or Sunbeam. As they say"up to you"Don't always believe the advertised rate and most of these rates that Flight Centre offer are not available to walk ins. Because Flight Centre is one of the biggest in the World there wholesalers have rooms bought that other sites such as Asia rooms cant offer or the hotel can't offer them selfs as they have already been allocated
