  • Royal Cliff Beach Hotel a total Nightmare… avoid!

Beach Cliff aka Royal Cliff Hotel a Total Nightmare€¦ Avoid!

I always stay at the Marriott in Pattaya but this time I booked too late and could not get a room so I called my travel agent who also said the same thing€¦ no rooms they are fully booked. When I was in Bangkok at the JW Marriott I asked the front desk to try to book me in but again they said there are no rooms at the Pattaya Marriott. So I go online and book a room at the Beach Cliff€¦ there are a few different hotels in this beach front area€¦ on their map it looks like it€™s at the end of Walking Street but it€™s no where near and it€™s really miles away. When I arrive at the Beach Cliff I can already start to feel I€™m in trouble€¦ I check in and the front desk lady starts telling me this big list of rules, what pools I can€™t use, what I can€™t eat, where I can€™t walk€¦ and best of all€¦ €œyou like lady at night you mus pay 500 baht for her in you room ok€ oh great like the 6064 baht a night isn€™t enough I got to pay them more to bring a girl up to my room? OK I just ignored that part. She takes me up to the 6th floor and as soon as we enter what is to be my room I€™m hit with the stench of mold! I started to sneeze and told her €œthe room stinks of mold€¦ she just looks at me€¦ €˜you no like room?€™ I tell her no it stinks of mold€¦ do you know what mold is? She just gives me a blank stare. Then a manager comes up who says €œI take you to room with no smoking€ I tell her it€™s not cigarette smoke€¦ it€™s mold€¦ she again doesn€™t know what I€™m saying or is just acting dumb about it. The next room she takes me too again it infested with mold. Then she takes me to another room€¦ this room does not smell as bad but it looks like crap and the furniture looks like something out of a 1960€™s movie.  She then leaves me in this room€¦ I just sit there and think about it all€¦. no fucking way I€™m staying in this over priced shithole! I go down to the front desk and tell them I€™m not happy and am leaving€¦ €œOk you check out?€ yes I€™m leaving€¦. Then she hands me a bill for one night€™s payment!!! I can€™t fucking believe this place has the nerve to try to now charge me for a whole night and I€™ve been there less then an hour in their mold infested hotel. She tells me that since I booked the room I must pay€¦ I then politely said yes but your rooms are not up to standard of a quality hotel€¦ I would not have this problem with the Marriott where I have stayed many times. I will pay you only 2000 baht€¦ she then goes €œok you pay 3000 baht€ what a joke this place is! I just pay it and get out of there.. I was lucky they gave me 50% off the charge€¦ I don€™t know if I can do a charge back since once they got your card number when you check in and your signature it€™s hard to dispute it€¦. Anyway I make my way over to the Marriott to give them a shot€¦ I€™ve heard that even when they are fully booked some hotels will still give you a room if you just show up€¦ since you are there they then give you priority over someone else who might be on the overbook list. Yes it works€¦ but they have a room for only 2 nights and not a week€¦.  I gave the guy a good €˜tip€™ and what do you know€¦. They now have room for me all week€¦ a happy ending to a total nightmare.

with a new establishment it is best to check out the room before signing, giving your card number, etc. avoids all the pay if you want to leave bs.
This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!
          FORT MINOR-REMEMBER THE NAME

Good advice Relpax. Luckily Bam was thinking with his head and got out of a bad situation.

it sounds as if the Kingfisher for 500 baht is nicer than the Royal Cliff.

if you've never been to Pattaya, think it's best to book for two nights only, then look around for something better if you're not happy. an exception would be certain peak times of the year.

              Perfect Pattaya Hotel:
              Tile floors
In room safe with combo lock
Good location within the main baht bus route
              Pool
Staff that's more interested in kissing your ass than enforcing rules.

Yes Beach Cliff and Royal Cliff are all part of the same complex of hotels. My feeling is the place has a finacial problem so beware of that too. Best to pay as you go with hotels and yes get to see the rooms first... the thing was I booked online with the Beach Cliff after having no luck with Marriott being they were fully booked. JW Marriott even recommended the Beach Cliff! I just wanted to make sure I had some place to stay even if it was for one night... because you never know what's going on in Pattaya the day you arrive!

Bam, almost the exact thing happened to me at the Royal Cliff. I wasn't even there an hour and they tried to charge me for a night. I raised do much hell and was so loud that I think they just wanted me out of the lobby. I was telling people who were just checking in that they better leave now before they actually check in. The manager said O.K, you go now. You owe nothing. What a colossal piece of shit!

They say when in Thailand not to get too excited about anything so I keep my cool with dealing with them... however I did feel like yelling at them. I'm still going to attempt to charge back the 3000 baht they charged my Amex.

On a funnier note I now remember her telling me my room is in the newly renovated wing... that was just before we arrived at the mold infested room they had reserved for me in their newly renovated Fungi-Spores-Mold wing.

I take it that the Marriott in Pattaya is LB friendly like the Marriott near Nana.

Bam I always use my AMEX card and if you ever have a problem like that they will charge it back to the merchant. Especially if you have a lot of activity on your card which it sounds like you must since you travel often. I cannot believe all of the positive advertising you do for the marriott chain on ATS that they donnot give you priority (joke)
