...on the subject of LK hotels (versus the areca or not), i have stayed (and enjoyed) all over soi diana - the LK Metropole, LK Renaissance AND the Areca. the prices ranged from 900-2500thb/nite, depending upon room type/hotel/and season and all were good "value". for my money soi diana is about as close to a sure thing as you'll find showing up in pattaya looking for a 'friendly' place to stay.

but *my* question is about another LK property -- the LK Royal Suites, which is "way over" (around the corner actually) on soi bukoaw and which i saw last week advertising a *monthly* deluxe room for 9,250thb. unless my math sucks more than my last ladyboy that's barely 300thb/nite. they confirmed that price in an email and i intend to try them out upon my return at summer's end (buddha willing) -- *but* what kind of room must that be to be so damn cheap?

i've never seen a 'bad" room at an LK establishment, so i'm wondering -- what's the catch? somebody wanna stop by there for a week and see? at that price, book a week and just use it for 'short-times' each afternoon!

That's a weekly rate TB, see link below.

But I'm living in a serviced apartment at the same price point which is quite nice. (And we've agreed on 2 out of 3 hotels)
The catch? It's not the best location for a guy in holiday but perfectly acceptable for the guy staying long term.

Thanks for the link to the LK Metro. Might be a little to La Posh for me. How do you guys manage walking down soi Diana each day?

It has to be the most dangerous soi for pedestrians in Pattaya. If it wasn't for walking on Diana to 2nd Rd, I'd give the LK Metro area a try.

You are right there , and then comes the hard part , trying to cross second road with a hundred kamakazi pilots on scooters coming at you

walking soi diana across second road proves that when it comes to safe mongering, it's just as important to keep your head on a swivel as your johnson in a wrapper.

C'mon TB, to get to Soi Yamoto you know you would crawl across 2nd road over broken glass on your stomach.

That's how I got home most nights.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

                          A plastic cup, eh?

A nice metaphor for the company we keep ...... ladies with plastic tits .....

.............but they still get the job done

It is certainly one of your nightmares come true trying to cross second road!
But apparently this is nothing compared to Vietnam.
Jimslim and i were talking to a Canadian guy at the pool in the areca lodge (whose girlfriend was a post op lb and he didn't know   )and he told us that in Vietnam it is the responsibility of the traffic to avoid pedestrians.
So basically, you walk out on to the road and expect cars, scooters etc.,to avoid hitting you.
Not exactly a practice i want to try myself!

This is correct. It's an amazing thing. In Saigon, you just start across the road, walk very slowly and don't stop. All the motorbikes will go around you. And everyone is going much, much slower than in Thailand.

(pentire @ Apr. 22 2008,14:43) I can recommened LK Pavilion at 1200 per day low season for a real nice studio apartment.
I just called LK Pavilion (off of Pattaya Tai east of 3rd Rd.) and they quoted over the phone me 1500/night for a studio. Maybe you can get it for less with a long stay.

Today, I just popped into LK Mansion for a look. Looks like a great room for 800/baht, I especially like the location. One minute walk to Pattaya Central Rd and probably 3 minutes walk to 2nd rd/central intersection.

They said internet in the room with your laptop is 10 hours for 250 baht. I forgot to ask if this was 10 hours straight or 10 hours accumulated login time. My guess is the latter. Anyone stayed here can tell me if the Internet is fast?

LK Royal Suite across the street (on the east of Soi Buakao) looks really, really nice, but 1500-1800/night.
