I have never stayed at the JW Marriot so I might be talking "out of turn" but have stayed at The Landmark which I think is a similar Hotel , so unless you getting a really good deal or its being paid for by your company, a couple of hotels below would be recommended at under half the price and are better rooms in my opinion from The Landmark

Unfortunately I have the displeasure of having to stay in hotels about 6 months a year, believe me there some appaulling ones out there & not all in the cheap rooms, sub 3-4star bracket either.

Europe just can't get the service thing sorted, & they are normally far too expensive. The USA is begining to slip on service / cleanliness / value for money, my last trip other there, the hotels were very disappointting & I couldn't believe how indifferent the staff had become. South America is very hit & miss. The middle east is fine as long as you staying in the expensive ones £120+/night, Asia seems to be the only country with its act together, price / service / staff / room quality etc. I really do notice the difference & it is often a pleasure to be in the some of the hotels in the LOS.

All the hotels mentioned in the above posts ( with the possible exception of the ST room, but thats for a specific purpose ) are excellent, i have used them all at some time or other. In the end i think it all comes down to personal choice / preference & how much you are willing to spend once in the 2000baht+ bracket. Altho' the out of season price at the Sunhill in Phuket is amamzing value considering the reasonble quality of the rooms.

I just can't seem to nail down a decent hotel in Pattaya tho', hopefully the Areca Lodge will be my final resting place. The Dynasty Inn looks nice, & I have looked at the rooms, but never stayed there, for the price & free BKK transfers its on the money.

It does seem that the Hotels in Pattaya run into two categories, whoremongers or family resorts. if there was a decent hotel in the 2500bt range, then it would make it (Pattaya) a lot more attractive.

KL, check the website for Areca Lodge, had alot of positive feed back from members I have asked about this place, in particular look at the the executive rooms. I have been there to visit friends quite a few times, but never stayed there, as i always thought it looked more family than sex pest, apparantly not! But i was always impressed with the rooms & overal quality of the place. Its no, Dynasty Grande, Majestic Grande, Marriot, but worth a look i think.

Ive stayed at both rob, and will be staying at both again in May
Areca would get the nod because of the pools and the Bacon is top notch

I ended up booking Areca thru' www.sawadee.com as i simply couldn't get the fax to go thru', at home & at work, crap really as they are now going to have to pay commission to sawadee for the booking & sawadee is same price on exec room, 2080baht. Why they can't get there own secure credit card direct payment working i don't know. But its booked now, ( I hope! ) Dynasty Grande I did by email, they don't seem to have a deposit system, but i will keep reminding them of the booking, it was no problem last time.

Whats the Dynasty Inn Pattaya like, most people seem to like it & location is OK. I looked at the rooms on my last visit & also last May, they certainly look OK for the money. Dynasty resort is also nice, looked up there too, but they were very vague about over night guests & LB's, so suspect they don't really want sex pests up there preferring to keep them "down town", fair enough i suppose.

June seems a long way off.....

i found my stay at the areca in december quite comfortable. no problem with numerous ladyboy guests, though they did charge me 300 baht when i brought two at once (but lek & kang were worth it) and one morning i was awakened by a baby crying next door.

yeah, some young couple brought their newborn to pattaya. i can only imagine the package tour dealer selling them on the 'family' nature of sodom & gomorrah by the sea.

i didn't really see the point of the extra 500baht/night for the 'executive' room, unless your tirak is gonna come do some home-cooking.  the free breakfast downstairs was satisfactory to my early morning needs on that score.

as you walk to 2nd road from the areca, do check out the 2nd bar on the left where a couple of quite attractive ladyboys can be found most evenings. and finally, if you head the other way, to 3rd street and make a right, just before you get to the motorbike rental store, on the right, you'll see a tiny little open-air restaurant where 2 thai ladies cook everything fresh after you order it. lek from stringfellows showed me the place and we both had heaping dishes and drinks for a combined price of less than 150 baht. i returned daily.

Thanks for the info', Thaibound, it will be better than my last stay at the Sunshine thats for sure!

July is a long way off, , will you survive, but June seems a long way off to me too.

Dynasty Inn in Pattaya is fine rob, just book a double room which I guess is the same price or only a little dearer, then there is no problem with a guest

You can also get to the lifts to your room by the car parking area ( where I parked my bike) without even having to go through reception
