    • (El_hefe @ Oct. 29 2009,14:15) On8 Sukhumvit Hotel

Just had the pleasure of staying here, albeit for 1 night & with no guests, & I just want to recommend it. As I said I wasn't mongering & the clientele was very mixed: business people, tourists, couples inc. a few farang men with their Isaan gfs. Don't think I'd give up the DIG for extended mongering, but this small property has a lot going for it.

It is located directly behind the staircase at the far end of the Nana skytrain station by soi 8. While someone mentioned that the rooms are small (they are the same size as the older Majestic hotel) it didn't bother me since the style is far superior to most hotels in this range & the design definitely plays off some  Ian Schrager tricks to fool the eye: mirrors, big details, beautiful bathroom with a very large shower, king bed, 85 channels on the LCD TV & a very nice breakfast, better than most hotels I stayed at in this price range, included in the 1900/night.

This a new property & everything worked great. Rooms are based on a max. occupancy of 2.
I stayed at On8 for three nights in June and will reserve judgement for now.

I really like Soi 8 and this hotel could not be more convenient to Nana BTS station since the stairs are right outside the restaurant door.

I had booked a Saffron (Premier) Room but, when I arrived, I was told that, due to the recent heavy rain, there was a problem with my room and they could only offer me an Amber (Deluxe) room which was smaller and had no open window (it had a a frosted glass window that didn't open). To be fair, they reduced the tariff to 1500 per night (the Amber room is normally over 1600 per night for a three night stay and I had originally booked the Saffron room at 1900 per night). The room was very clean and the bathroom was nice but I could not get the water temperature right in the shower. It would start out cold, then switch to warm, then hot and then settle on cool. I reported this twice and was told that the engineer would fix the problem but it had not been fixed by the time I checked out.

The restaurant is fine but the menu is limited so I only ate there once. Overall, the location and general standard of the hotel is very good but they need to respond better to customer complaints and expand their restaurant menu as their custom grows.

By the way, I can confirm that it is lb friendly...I had a very enjoyable ST session with Aun from Obsession, no questions asked.

Thanks for the info on lb friendliness, this puts it in my top list then for this price range in BKK.

I didn't experience any problem with the water temp, hope this is temporary or limited to that room. I thought the trade off was the size of the room, much smaller than I am usually interested in, but everything else was so nice & clean & new & modern that I was happy, just like my first stay at Majestic Suites when they opened. The shot below is how I remembered my room actually being. Also there was no view, it was like a cool, dark quiet cocoon to me, not a bad thing in BKK.

I agree about the cafe, I had an awful sandwich there, but I was also battling the "Phuket 2-step" at that point, so I really had no appetite & was in a bad mood. Besides, one is near the restos on soi 12, or Suda.

It is a great place to stay,  plus if your g/f happens to kick the shit out of the door with her stiletto's it will only cost you 5000 baht to replace it

How about the Adelphi Grande - as part of the same group, is it LB-friendly too ? Also looking at Paradiso Suites and Hotel Solo if anyone has experiences...good or bad.

                • Think I may take Manarak's advice - Adelphi Suites seems to be a great hotel from the looks of it, and currently are offering 54 sq meter Executive Suite for 3228 ThB via Agoda during Jan/Feb 2011 high season.

Any reason NOT to book the Adelphi? It seems to be very close to Nana, and looks like it would be comparable to the deluxe rooms at Majestic Grande that I likes so much.

Anyone got any feedback for me?

                    • Ibis Nana and Heaven@4 are both close to NEP - not too much of a trot with your belle de jour. I've not stayed at either, but Ibis is apparently LB-friendly although rooms are of the 'modern yet snug' variety. I'd be surprised if Heaven@4 isn't guest-friendly given it's location.

I think Adelphi Suites is better value than Majestic Grande for the same price.

Majestic Grande is a bit too plush for my taste - I like less gold and thinner carpets and more space.

The Majestic wins for the breakfast.
But the Adelphi has free internet, and coming from Europe I'm never up in time for breakfast anyway.

I took pictures of my mini-suite at the Adelphi and posted them in my last trip report. Have a look if you like the style.

And... don't forget to use my great hotel site to make your reservations! (see my sig) :-)
