A shame the Baht has risen in value. Good for Thais and bad for us. Thailand is rising and will become a economic Asian Tiger along with Singapore, South Koreas, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. The USA will soon have to keep up with them. Not the other way around. So better learn some Chinese, Thai, and Japanese if you're planning to live in Thailand or want to work is Asia.

Hong Kong will be taking a hit to their economy due to the China takeover.
This will probably affect Thailand some too since Hong Kong is a big hub for travellers.
China is also exerting pressure on Thailand and soon may have more influence than one might like.
United States and England don't have much influence on Thailand anymore.
It is interesting that the United States Military caused Pattaya to be the way it is.

Bangkok may have become more expensive but around Pattaya there is lots of vacancies. Many condos were built and now there is not many customers.
There was many Russian complexes went up but many of them stopped coming.
I have been checking out apartments in Jomtien and there is plenty of cheap ones from 5000 to 15000 baht.

Thailand is number one in Rice growing but soon will be number one in Weed growing.
They plan to corner the market in growing marijuana for the world wide market, since they have a much lower cost.
Medical marijuana was recently legalized and rumor says that everyone will soon be able to buy pot in Thailand.

The US dollar has been quite stable against the baht over the last 10 years.

Going to Thailand and live as an expat has been a lure for more than a decade now. Thailand is close to developped countries but expats complain of bad quality services and many of them are unable to understand cultural differences. Talking down to people ain't the solution while at their side, Thai people are fed up with arrogant farangs.

I see no interest in moving so far and get a condo in a large city with heavy car trafic without being able to spend money for fun every night. One should think about it before deciding to become an expat.

They just built that Q house a few years ago on that empty lot at Soi 6 and Sukhumvit. It is ridiculously expensive.
Q Sukhumvit for rent: 72 units available from ฿70,000 to ฿200,000 per month (prices are for 1 year rental term).

I rented a condo at Elio Del Ray just near Phra Khanong station. 9000 baht per month, biggest pool ever seen.
Electricity was 200 baht per month.

It is still very cheap to live in Thailand compared to other places. Rent and utilities are significantly cheaper.
Food is very cheap and most basic necessities are cheap. Entertainment may be going up in price but you can save so many other ways by living there.
No sales tax on most goods is a huge saver of money, you just don't notice it at home.
