That's all they fly out of San Francisco...The 747 doesn't carry as many passengers (because EVA has reduced passenger space with a bulkhead so they can carry more freight)....and they are not as comfortable or as modern as the 777's...I don't get to change to the 777 until I get to Taipei...I wish they flew the 777 all the way from SF, but I suspect it is a matter of economics...They likely make more money with freight...So I take the redeye so I can sleep all the way to Taipei...

And in Tapei there are free showers. Gotta bring your own towel though so I bring an old one and leave it in Tapei.

They don't fly the refurbuished 747's out of San Francisco yet, and I'm glad of that. For what I've read I don't like the new layout.

In the old planes First and Business is upstairs and Deluxe is at the front of the bottom level. In the new layout First is at the front of the bottom level (which is, in my opinion, the optimal place as you have no sense of the crowd of people on the plane).

What it will mean for me as a Deluxe flyer is that I'll be sitting back with tons of other people and I just don't like it as much.
I think upstairs will be Economy and that doesn't make much sense.

They will presumably be putting in the 777's entertainment system and that's the only win for the refurbishment.

EVA gave up their Super First Class on 1 Dec. With the new refurbd' seats...does anyone know if Eva still has a lie flat sleeper (ie First Class)? Or, is it all Premium Laurel Class now for all 747/777's?

            gave up in what sense?
I flew back to SFO on a non-refurbished 747 on Dec 10th and that had Super First Class upstairs as it's been for a long time.

It is called a Boeing 747-400 Combi and has a moveable bulkhead on the passenger deck, so, as you said, they can carry more freight. The Combi carries approximately 100 fewer passengers than the standard Boeing 747-400. The money is in hauling cargo not passengers.

at least with EVA they make some distinction between the two.
which can not be said for flying even first class on a domestic airlines back in the good old

Ficking crap...They have reduced the toilets in Elite Class from 4 to 2 ...Also the let the riff raff from Economy use the loos....Im no snob but there are limits..who wants snivelling drunks roaming about while one is trying to relax.

I think in Economy your toilet is under your seat now.

The old deluxe class was far better

Thanks for the link. I had heard they were going to retire their 747 Combi-s or convert them into freighters.
The 777 is a comfortable aircraft, preferred by many over the 747, so it is extremely disappointing that the configuration EVA has chosen for their new 777-300s has not been with met with positive reviews. Just the opposite.

Damn, I was used to having one of the seats in the middle of plane in Economy Deluxe Class, rows 24, 25,and 26 had only two seats side by side and you never had to worry about someone stepping over you to go to the toilet. If you were a Platinum or Gold club member you could book these seats and be assured of a pleasant overnight flight from SFO. Maybe they will continue to use this configuration for a while longer.

They're still using the 747-Combi from SFO in January. Given that they just made a slight change to the layout (replacing the 8 First class seats with 12 Business class seats) it would seem to me that they intend to keep flying this plane for quite some time.
I hope so too. The "unusual" layout in the front cabin of Evergreen Deluxe does yield some really nice seats which you can get as a frequent flier.

I really don't care what they do to the airplane, they have always treated me great. Changed flights 3 times in one day and no charge.I have enough miles always up grade to business.
