That's the biggest scam of the lot... a departure tax for Sukhumvit. Twice I've been shafted for that!
        Care to explain?

BTW if you go through domestic try the sandwiches at the food court, heir salmon sandwiches are amazing and worth taking an extra couple.

never had any problems in the new airport. i just breeze through customs and immigration, my bags are always there and i walk up to departures and get a cab there ,and avoid the big queues for the so called good taxis down stairs..i don't do this to avoid the extra 50 bhat booking fee. but to get away from the airport as fast as possible.
Air ports are over priced shit holes only to be passed though by necessity. there is no other reason to be in these hell holes.
thia air is always a shambles, always late, and there are always queues to board and check in, they are $200 cheaper than qantas on the other hand, and the service is good on board

Same same at 7.30am last Friday. There was one immigration officer at every station, but every station had two work stations. They really need to look at how Changi works and copy the work practices.Mind you it's about the only thing Singapore has over BKK.
On 22 Dec, in addition to the long wait at passport control, another 45 minutes at the the "are you carrying more than 100ml" check point. Here they were continually bringing people forward because their flights were on final call, so the rest of us never seemed to progress.

                          • Recent announced change for taxi service at Suvarnabhumi Aiport:

Cab fares set to rise under AoT

Taking a cab from the airport could cost more after Airports of Thailand (AoT) takes over running the taxi queues at Suvarnabhumi from March 1. AoT president Chana U-sathaporn said the agency plans to charge cabbies 10 baht per trip and raise the airport taxi surcharge from 50 baht to 75 baht. He would discuss the planned increases with the Land Transport Department before submitting the proposal to Transport Minister Santi Prompat for approval. Chana said it was agreed the AoT would take over the taxi queues at a meeting with cab operators on Feb 21. Some operators opposed the proposed 10-baht charge, which he said would help pay the monthly bills for water and electricity and finance the building of facilities such as toilets and rest areas. He said it currently costs the airport 1.7 million baht a month to hire a private company to manage the taxi queues. Some queue operators were found to have overcharged tourists. By taking over queue management the AoT could end overcharging and reduce its costs. Suvarnabhumi airport Director Serirat Prasutanont said the AoT would draft details of the agreement, which was expected to take effect this Saturday.
                            From Bangkok Post, Feb. 25/2008.

Someone gets paid to "manage" the queues! Have not seen much managing going on.

                              Yeah right.

Actually most people that know Thailand go upstairs to departures anyway. But a small increase is acceptable (how many years has it been 50 Baht?) but I hope that they will manage the taxis better and stop the few **** there are trying to cheat innocent tourists. And while we are at at it, why not restrict the taxi pick ups that are new like the Altis, Limo's etc and get rid of the museum pieces.
