Is the Beach Road still coverd with market stalls. many people walk in the rd i noticed rather than cram in the pavement

I once recall a conversation while sat in a streetside bar in Sukhumvit watching people cross the street and taking their life in their hands in BKK. The bargirl I was playing connect four with commented about crazy farang nearly got run over. She went onto say, "see all the time - why he want kill himself" - I replied something like why shouldnt he cross the road and without a pause she said "Road is for car". This was at the time of huge traffic jams and it appeared the sidewalk was the defacto motorbike lane !!!! - I asked so what is people supposed to do? Her answer "He should be in the car" - I assume its Thai logic.....

The most exciting motorbike ride of my life involved half the trip on the footpath doing 30 kmh...(mardhi @ Jan. 14 2011,12:13) This was at the time of huge traffic jams and it appeared the sidewalk was the defacto motorbike lane !!!!
Silom Road was gridlocked & my airport pickup was due in 10 minutes. That young motorsai rider sure earnt his 200 baht tip...
