When in Pattaya I only have cash for 1 day/night of mongering in my cheap-shit wallet, photocopy of my passport & visa and few Durex Fruit Flavored Condoms. And I never ever take Baht Bus, even from Soi 2 to Walking Street, I only walk. It sure isn't the fastest way but does miracle to my stamina in bed.

    p.s.
At night I received quite a lot of Bangkok handshakes on Beach road, but luckily I€™m big and strong so even biggest LBs have little respect.

(koykaeng @ Apr. 10 2009,13:16) Don't remember too much, but she had quite short hair and was butt ugly.
Could it be that she didn't shave her arse and you were looking at the wrong end?

In Pattaya I carry a very slim wallet. On most nights, I carry about 2500 bht in 500 notes and a bunch of 100s and 20s in my pocket. And some 10 baht coins for baht busses.

Since I'm not barfining anyone this is way more than I could possibly spend in an evening.

Also carry a hospital ID card and probably should carry a photocopy of my passport.

Occasionally, I carry my Thai ATM card if I need to stop at a bank.

I believe this is the culprit (white T-shirt) being pointed out in the photo.

KK, appreciate the warning. Your story, and Sticky's and Azza's bad experience in KL shows that even experienced travelers can run into problems. It is easy to become relaxed after numerous visits without problems.

It was good fortune you were able to get your wallet back without incident - thank goodness for red lights!

Lots of good advice on how to proceed for those who pay attention!

Thanks for sharing this story KK. It never hurts to remind those of us who go to or live in Pattaya to be ever vigilant.

It is somewhat amazing to me that given the location of your wallet that she was able to remove it without your knowing it. I've used those pockets and felt someone could not get into one without my knowing. If it could happen to you though, I'm sure it could happen to me, so been lucky so far.
I think my regular security system is pretty sound, but I may need to revisit it.

Oddly enough on my trips to Costa Rica I felt the need to be more on guard than I ever have in any part of Thailand. Same in Philippines, I'm more cautious there. Well the street urchins in Manila are more persistent and that's the only place where I've had one hang on to my arm for a city block trying to get me to buy whatever it was she was selling.

In Costa Rica, when I would walk around the streets at night to chat to the travesti freelancers, I'd carry enough cash for a taxi and a photocopy of my passport, and nothing else in my pockets.  Even with my cautious nature,  no one ever tried to pick my pocket that I know of.

(Eazy_Sleazy @ Apr. 10 2009,07:22) Sorry Koykaeng...didn't mean to insult you, I understand your intentions/dilema. Bottomline--I have no sympathy for stupid people, and I will berate them, period. Gotta have thick-skin for my replies--keep it real.
Bottomline- KK wasn't being stupid. IMO, putting his wallet in the cargo pocket was being as careful as 98% of the falang in Pattaya.
I don't think anyone should be so cocky and arrogant as to think it could never happen to them.

I remember a thread a few years ago, where some guy was talking about using an ankle holster type of thing to carry his cash, atm card, etc. Said it was more secure down there and harder for anyone to steal it.

Someone else responded and said to carry Thai money that close to one's foot would be an insult to the Thais, since the King's picture is on the money.

More accurately, he was being MORE careful than 98% of the clueless & unaware that wander Pattaya's fine streets.

                        Koy,

Thanks for the info. Its always helpful. Read so much about Pattaya, thought, I would give it a try. I will be there by next week-end, and will be careful.

I agree, nobody deserves to get robbed, I am one of those dumbasses who carries a lot of money around, but I will be careful from now on.
