I always carry a wallet but never have more than I can stand to lose in it and keep it in a location where it is not that easy to get to. So I don't think blaming it on a wallet is the anwer. Everything else is in the safe. Doesn't matter if I'm in Bangkok or Pattaya. Had a close call but had my wits and quickly shoved her away when I figured out what she was doing. I think if someone wants your money bad enough they will figure out a way to get it. Sadly you just have to be suspicious of everyone.

Well, I don't know about that. But simply carrying a wallet shouldn't qualify as 'deserving' to be robbed.
There are some extremely careless people who visit Pattaya who I think actually do deserve to be turned over.
On the other hand there are people who take reasonable precautions and their risk is lower...
I take EVERY precaution and I'm constantly on my guard and have never been robbed in Pattaya.
It's just a shame that I feel like I always have to feel like this and can never afford to relax there. Oh well... I'm just there to screw the femboys so who cares!

(pacman @ Apr. 09 2009,20:07) I was pick pocketed by a 4 year old flower seller at 3am in the morning in Phuket over 20 years ago.

What a stupid comment , no one deserves to be robbed
No shit, nobody deserves to get robbed--or hit by a baht bus running from someone that's robbing them for that matter...I meant: dumbasses that carry wallets and complain about getting hiked deserve to get their shit stolen; why carry a wallet on your ass where every pick-pocket knows to get it? Makes zero sense. Not a stupid comment. Here I sit broken hearted, tried to shit but only farted. I am not worthy until I have at least 1,000 posts to my name on the LB Forum.

The contents of the wallet was around 4000 Baht, and one debit card which had less than $60 USD available.
All my credit cards & cash were secure in my hotel room safety box.
I'll accept that a wallet is potentially an easier target, however not convinced everyone that carries one is infact a dumbass as you so eloquently put it.
Have been travelling to Pattaya regularly for 16 years, and thankfully have never had an incident before.
For the record, I took the trouble to post this story purely as a warning to others, and to stimulate some discussion.
Suggesting that folks avoid carrying a wallet is perfectly sensible advice, however your posts could have done without the insults.
Cheers

(jadeite @ Apr. 10 2009,17:32) The police are not a waste of time. The justice system does work here if given the chance, but the problem is most people are too comfortable to get robbed and let thieves go about thier business. It's a common theme I read here over and over. In fact, I don't recall a single thread where the police were called to take action. Just a lot of excuses of why people didn't bother.
To be honest, at the time it was all unfolding I was so relieved to have retrieved my wallet & contents that taking any further action really didn't occur to me. Remember this is all taking place on the back of a Baht Bus stopped briefly at a red light.
Besides, I was on my way to Ezy bar for a blind date.
BTW, I am sure this post will benefit more forum members than you'd imagine.
Even a newbie like me has already learnt not to carry a wallet in Pattaya simply by posting my story.
Cheers

(kliome @ Apr. 10 2009,19:08) Well I'm glad he posted it up as I'll be keeping an eye out for them.
How does the LB look? Is she top or bottom?
Don't remember too much, but she had quite short hair and was butt ugly.
Even Hi Boss would have turned her away.
Cheers

Thanks Stogie...I am "Eazy-Sleazy" (literally)--wait for some disguting TR's later! Sorry Koykaeng...didn't mean to insult you, I understand your intentions/dilema. Bottomline--I have no sympathy for stupid people, and I will berate them, period. Gotta have thick-skin for my replies--keep it real.

I tried the no-wallet just cash in the pockets solution for a while. The evening would start out great as I knew what was in each pocket. But after many bars and lots of change received I'd lose track of how much money what where so I'd end up pulling out wads of cash when I had to pay by bin.
I then went back to using a wallet but not my main wallet full of cards, instead a thin wallet just holding the evening's cash. Then I could keep my money organized and pay my bin without revealing how much money I had with me to anyone watching. Also when someone approached I could move my hand to my wallet and protect my capital quickly.
So I think that using a wallet when out and about is a good idea. Just make sure it's thin, has only cash in it, and be aware of your surroundings and hang onto your wallet in your pocket if anyone gets into your personal space.

I left my wallet in a phone box back in 1978 with £40 in it. After walking out and realizing 5 minutes later what I'done I went back and it was gone....
That was nearly 2 weeks wages gone and the sick feeling I had taught me a good lesson at the time. Since then my preference is cash in the front pockets and no wallet.
Notes in decending order but thats another story..
My jeans are so tight robbin me would be like a free wank...
But seriously just use common sence, be friendly to every one and trust no one (in Pattaya)...

Well thanks KK for highlighting this problem here esp in Patts.
Just would add my 2 bahts worth as am more sensible usually than this next episode be a warning for fellow BMs!!!
In Feb whilst holidaying in Patts I got blind drunk (as you easily do) on WS with friend who dissapeared about 3-4am and i mistakingly wandered into JSB alone (like a lamb to the slaughter) and ordered a drink.
Nano seconds later a cuddly LB think name was Naddie?? or similar was at my side shoving her silicon tits up against me, so remmeber a ladydrink bacardi breezer being 200bt I paid (1st sting and wallet opened) then we were on our way to the loom by mbike taxi another 150bt for 2 of us.
But not my loom was hers by motorbike taxi to somewhere on soi AR i remember and had her Lb friend (short blonde spiky hair 30s) followed us by her mbike.
I know alarm bells should be ringing
Drunken 3 some which I was more asleep than anything then quick shower where remember i took my clothes in with me (on auto pilot) then made mistake of nodding off after deed done with 2 of em on bed.
Was awoken told i can go so got mbike taxi back after seeing that only had 2x 1000bt notes lft in wallet, ordered 1 to get some change for me for mbike taxi, then only wen i woke up in my room same day in afternoon I realised my debit card had been removed from my wallet!!!!!!
Quick call to back home to cancel card as was debit card/atm card.
In 15 yrs of visiting Thailand & 10 yrs visiting Pattaya never had this happen to me and have got in some similar states at night.
Anyway cut long story short once home discovered they had successfully w/drawn 10,000bt from my a/c using debit card b4 was blocked!!!!!!
Made me sit up and take note ;
1. Dont get so pissed again you're not in charge of decsision making
2. Avoid JSB after 4am and these particular 2 skanks that must hav worked this scam b4
3. Never take out debit card/credit cards in wallet only cash for the night as so rightly said above.
4. Never bothered with police as Stogies says are pretty useless in Patts and more corrupt than anywhere else.
5. Yes realised we are dealing with hookers here so all there interested is your money be it in short or long term
Feel free to flame me I know was to blame as self inflicted but would it have happened 5 yrs ago?
The Horror , the horror of them
Cheers
