Is Songkran Festival Worth Seeing?

Sorry to sound snobbish, but most educated BKK Thais and longterm expat residents leave the country or barricade themselves in their homes for these 3 or 4 days!

I love the holiday, and one year me and two Thai friends (older and well educated) and their kids, went out in a pickup truck with two giant buckets of water.

You may not like Songkron, but don't say most people don't like it.

For a first experience the Songkran is "great fun", I loved it  

Go out "have a laugh" and act like "an infant"  

After a few times, you might get "pissed off" with it as I did

Bangkok lasts 3 nights and Pattaya 7 nights ( which IMHO is too much )

Well as you lot know i been to LOS few times and this is going to be the my first ....I don't know how im going to like it...
But i guess it will be an experience...

I'm gonna be in Thailand during this period. Can't wait!
So where have you guys (you fun loving guys, not the grumpy old geezers ) tried it? Where do you recomend(if you think inside your hotel room or another country, fuck off)? I'm not shure if I can get away with running around in Pattaya with lbs all day spraying water. Know too many people there. But it seems like the action gets going other places aswell, here Patong.

My schedule is usually one day Khao Sarn, one day in a Thai neighborhood, 3rd day varies.
Then Pattaya for 19th and 20th

the only time i have ever been truly and painfully cold in thailand -- bone-chilling, uncomfortable, physically distressed cold -- was just after a giant bucket of *iced* water was dumped from a window above directly onto my head in 'celebration' of Songkran.

not "cold" water. "iced" water. chips and cubes in fractured evidence all around me.

one Songkran was more than enough for me.

Myself an Ciobha sat in the relative safety of Hanrahans soi 4 and watched the madness commence first day of Songkran last year in Bangkok .

Highlights included a big Russian going completely bonkers because he was ambushed and his strides got wet , big fucking Jessie

A Thai guy coming off his moped after getting a bucket of water full on in the face

All good fun from a distance
