Went for 6 days once from Australia. That turned into 12 though as I kept changing my flight home

Back in the day (2000) I thought my first 9 day trip was out of this world, and I've been on a couple 10 day jaunts, but now I wouldnt come for anything less than 2 weeks. It's 26 hours on a plane (RT from SF), plus another 8-9 in airports, and I dont want to spend  $1200 on a tkt. only to turn around and buzz home after a couple days.

The job is hectic enough    and The Man is unrelenting  . I go to Thailand to escape that world, get laid a lot, and relax for as long of a vacation as I can get.

Three years ago I was in Phuket & BKK for a total of 23 days, which was just about perfect!

voted for 3-5 days. Did it that way quite regulary when I lived in Germany. ( there you have the nice long weekends with Thursday a public holiday the follwing Friday is also an off day)
Living now in the US it takes at minimum a week to even think about it. but still I manage to come over at least 4 X a year .

I find it harder to shake jet-lag these days, so 7-10 days would be an absolute minimum to extract the most fun without turning it into some sort of endurance test.
You men eat your dinner, eat your pork and beans
I eat more chicken, than any man ever seen, yeah, yeah

The pain and inconvenience of the too and from flying from the US would prohibit me from considering anything less than 7 days.

(azza33 @ Oct. 12 2008,15:11) To me its kinda equation based-

I'm not flushed with funds, so its highly dependent on the airfare costs.

Now with the LCC, if you are lucky, you can scrounge $330-400 fare and a 3-4 day trip is very feasible.

ST in OZ is around $150 for 30 mins... so the LCC airfare is definitely worth the trip.
Same for me Azza, I've done 5 days before. Afternoon flight on a Wednesday after work, in Bangkok by 10pm. Then a return flight on Sunday night arriving in Sydney on Monday morning and straight back to work. This wasn't the best but considering at the time I couldn't take holidays and also the cost of P4P in Oz it was the best option.
The only problem with doing this was that I was flagged by customs who gave me the third degree and went through all my stuff. Wanting to know why a young guy was taking such a short trip.
I don't get it, is this a magic show?

it is all depending on your utility curves

I came to LOS the first time in July for a week (which I did secretly).

I became addicted, came back with my wife in October for 2 weeks, and I will go again at the end of nov. for another week, again secretly.

I will take a 13.5 hour flight to LOS - and 15.5 hours back - add 3 to 4 hours to each trip...

And I already forked out about 1500 USD for the flight plus a week in Aspen Suites, and I will probably spend about the same during the time I'm in BKK.

I tell you, I am addicted.

My utility curve of LB curves is quite high.

I voted for 3-5 days, meaning time actually spent in the LOS.

Let's kill off the jetlag myth. While travelling across time zones is tiring, you can survive 3-4 days on sheer adrenalin. Only then does the jetlag really kick in, and the next 2 days are, shall we say, difficult. I agree with the adage that it takes a day to recover for each hour of time difference; so it takes a week from London, and a further week when you get back. 12 hours each direction from New York! The moral? - don't try. It's less tiring in the long run to go for a short time and stay on your home timetable, and/or survive on adrenalin, than it is to stay long enough to get used to the new time. Unless, of course, you stay for a month.

I've considered the travel from London. A long weekend could mean leaving on Thursday night, to arrive on Friday afternoon. To leave again on Sunday (possibly Monday) night. This gives you 2, possibly 3, nights in Bangkok or Pattaya. Is it worth it? I am not thinking particularly of the cost, but of the travel time. Allowing travel to and from the airport, checking in and further delays, it's got to be 16-18 hours each way. The answer's surely got to be no.

Had a good chat with KL about this one. I just did a 18 dayer, so thats 18 days with no pay + 6000 baht spending money each day, then hotels on top at about 2500-3000 baht each night. Works out a very expensive few weeks & now 6 months to pay off the hotel bills. Go for 9 days (2 days for traveling) less money lost in wages, less spending money & less on hotels & then can go back in 3 to 4 months for another week. Makes perfect sense to me, less of a kick in the nuts each time & i get out 3 times a year as apposed to only twice
                        Be lucky,have fun & stay young !

9 days tho,hmm thats just 7 days in LOS 1st day usually just chillin out n feelin feet/flight recovery,so youve got 6 days...not much considering long flight and expense,so for min its 2 weeks min.
