Probably because Aviation fuel is Not the stuff you put in a car
Aviation fuel is a lot more expensive not least of all because it cant exactly freeze at minus 100 degrees unlike regular gasoline. Well it could freeze but you find a lot of expensive aircraft falling out of the sky ........
But seriously your sentiment is flawed - an average aircraft cannot fill up for a round trip in arab land as the cost of actually carrying that fuel (i.e burn more gas to carry that huge weight) is more expensive than just buying it at the destination for the round trip (assuming the tanks have the capacity for a round trip which is rare).
Aviation fuel is more or less paraffin and not as expensive as petrol.
Aircraft can only fuel-up for the one way trip to the destination plus a little extra in case of congestion at the destination (ie circling around the destination waiting for a gap for landing) or a detour in case of bad weather.
Before landing, the little fuel that is left has to be ejected through outlets in the wing tips. This is in case of crashing on landing, and is illegal to land with half-full tanks.
Depending on the airlines contract with its fuel supplier, they may have jumped the gun and agreed on a high price for the rest of this year when it was 150 usd. Therefore, the price may not change until this years fuel surplus, or contract is used up. Like I say, depends on the airline and contracts, and even though oil has gone down to 55 usd, it won't take effect until next year.
Another big rip off is a lot of the airport authorities in some countries with their add-ons, such as fuel surcharge, pollution tax, and airport tax. I just checked the price of a return on Eva from Amsterdam to Bangkok for the middle of next year.
The actual ticket was 475 Euro's, but with the add-ons it came to 860 Euro's.
Klm and China was something the same. Now thats a rip-off.
