(bigdave123 @ Apr. 09 2008,06:25) From Oz for me it is Singapore airlines (hard to beat the service) Also have flown direct with Thai.
*** A note those who get the new 380 due to its size it starts loading 1 hour before flght **************
if EC my pre booked seat is 33c
If flying the Airbus 345 rows 31-33 have a private cabin feel to it. Unfortunately Sing has now reconfigured the Singapore to New York (Newark) as biz class only.
If flying the Airbus 380 looks like 71C, 81C,44C, 54C and starboard side equivalents look best.
(bigdave123 @ Apr. 09 2008,20:25) Airlines i will not fly Ba/Qantas so f****king rude
Yeah what's with Qantas or Cuntass... the flight crew is made up of these old bitchy gay guys that all seem to hate their jobs and you for flying Cuntass.
I agree with that senitment for Qantas economy they are all 50 year olds who have been working for 30 and hate their jobs and not allowed to be fired.
Business Class and First Class on Qantas is another story though, most of the flight attendants are much younger and the service is very good. Also on long haul flights important to be able to use the lounge on a layover so as to freshen up with a shower etc.
I always ask for forward aisle when in economy so I can get up at any time without having to wake or annoy people. I do not sleep much and like to get up every hour or two and go for a walk even in the middle of a movie.
VOD is important for me as it is part of my routine and makes the time go faster. As Snick says noise cancelling headphones are a must and so are eye shades.
I do not drink very much alcohol anymore on long haul flights which is sometimes hard when you are in business class.
Make sure you bring some toothpaste or mouthwash and deodorant and even some facial mist which helps freshen up before you disembark.
(thaibound @ Apr. 08 2008,21:44) as a limber youth, 'economy' bothered me very little, but as an older, wiser and stiffer man of certain years, i recommend steerage be added to the list of torture methods not acceptable under the geneva convention.
and i can not recommend combining xanax and alcohol to survive such extended unpleasantness, as that combination has a reputation of perpetuating a very relaxed lack of awareness straight into eternity.
i'll pass up expensive meals, over-priced hotels, and too many drinks at a fancy bar and by month's end, i've saved back much of the difference. not to mention the 3 days i *don't* lose upon arrival due to a cramping back.
I'm definitely onboard with your sentiments there, my friend.
Unfortunately, other than United (which is way beyond the pale on general principles), no one offers true flat beds from the US direct to Bangkok anymore or I would stand ready to pay whatever it takes to get one every darned trip. You can fly true first class from New York on SQ, if you're prepared to take a Frankfurt stop and change planes in Singapore; or on CX as far as Hong Kong if you're willing not only to change planes there, but end up for the last three hours of the trip in business class on a crappy regional aircraft with seats two generations out of date that hardly recline at all.
The alternative is TG business. The service is usually half-assed, the food is always awful, and the seats are at crammed in at such an angle that you slide out of them after you've slept for a while. Still, it's nonstop, and the seats are flat even if they aren't horizontal.
There's just one big problem. TG announces every couple of months that they are going to end their nonstop service to both JFK and LAX 'very soon now' and reroute all their flights to the US via stops in China. After that, there will be no decent air service between Thailand and the US that makes any premium class worth paying for. Damn shame.
I do like SIA most consistant best service i have had also have 3 upgrades to BC the service is even better then EC. One time coming back frm singapore i was late and check in had been gong for 30 minute or so i was in a bit of a rush and searching fo the ticket i get Sorry mr David we have over booked im thinking blodly hell what next, i was advised if i wait till 1230 am flight they would tr upgrade to BC or pay me to sty overnight in singapore and pay me for it plus give me monc b pen. She said come back in 1 hour and we will advise you. Of i went had some maccers came back i got upgraded to BC full service a pen and 200 usd for my troubles.
Got to love SIA
pS I KNOW THE SERVICE IS SUPPOSED TO BE BETTER IN BC BUT SIA SERVICE IN EC IS ALWAYS FANTASTIC.
(Road Runner @ Apr. 07 2008,22:25) As I'm one of the proles who has to pay for their own flights and does not get to write it off to tax or company expenses I fly cattle class.
RR.
Wow.. too expensive for me.
I guess I travel with the food for the cattle...
a froggy, lost in translation and in Africa... and no, I am not the one on the pic swinging a club ... I am the one holding the pin !!!
Just curious anyone flown air asia x business class seats to London?
Are they any good?
I've done the xl seats to Melbourne from KL on air asia x and they they are definetly better than economy section but i wouldn't suggest its anywhere near business class comfort- premium economy maybe.
I fly economy from the US and it is pure hell. I could use FFMs to upgrade for a few $100 more but I'm so close to retirement I'd rather save that money plus I hate giving those bastards any more than I have too. And paying outright for Business or FC is a no brainer as I could use that money for another economy ticket for another trip later. With my long legs and tiny bladder I must have an aisle seat however and I always do carry-on bags only. I've experienced lost luggage before and it is not fun.
Must be nice to have a wee bit more room. but I can never see me earning enough money to fly anything other then working class, so that's that Would be happy just to be able to get out there at the moment
Usually i book an Elite Class ticket of EVA( De- Luxe for USA) but..
I was upgraded to premiium laurel on EVA both ways in recent weeks which means i have ben upgraded to first or business around 10 times for free now. I have Gold card which means if an upgrade is coming due to re shuffle its me who wins the lottery
Thank you EVA... thank you... i will never use anyone else..I always have an aisle seat which i book in advance. well in advance.
The best way to fly Economy is to drop dead on your trip and at least you can lie flat for the return trip in the nice cushioned pine box that they provide for such unfortunates....
