That's the route that I fly Doc.

I've used Thai, United, China Air and Sing.

The Thai non-stop is an option. But if you use Thai, I suggest you put your miles into United' Mileage Plus program. And when you reedeem your miles I suggest you use Sing. Those three are all part Star Alliance.

China Air often has cheap fares but looking long term I think it's really best to have your miles in United's Mileage Plus program.

I like to get a general idea by using sites like Expedia and then check each airline's individual website.
              And call too.

                Great Tips
                Thanks PD
I wonder who is in the Alliance?
I have miles in all the airlines but prefer some of the more stable programs.

Earning miles on United and Thai but reddeming them on Sing is a key play.

If you already have miles with United, make sure if you fly Thai you put them in your United account!

60K miles gets you to Asia free and it can be more than one place such as tacking on Bali.

Lots of EZ ways to get miles such as around 17.5 K miles by signingi up for a credit card.

Why? I earn most of miles flying Thai, but I live in Spore so would be easier for a couple of upcoming trips to use SQ

Flights originating in America on SQ tend to be expensive. But their long haul coach (premium economy) might be as nice as biz class on other airlines.
So getting the miles ellsewhere but using on SQ has worked well for me.

But if you live in Spore do as the Sporians do.

I have been a member of Thai Royal Orchid Plus / Star alliance for some time & have benefited accordingly, but you do need to understand the ticket booking classes otherwise you can get short changed on your miles.

I'm sure alot of you are aware of this website, but just in case some don't here it is. Some of the cheapest prices I have seen on the internet.

My tickets cost $800 even with taxes RT from LA to BKK, Economy, and 1 transfer in Taiwan (EVA).

Has anyone gotten cheaper from the LA/SF to BKK? I'd like to go direct next time and upgrade to business class but I'm thinking that will be almost double.

                            Thanks.

I never looked at Thai air before because they don't fly out of SFO...but I thought I'd see what their fares are from LA to BKK...Expensive... but they offer a deal they call Discover Thailand...The program allows any international traveler traveling on any airline to purchase 3 coupons to fly to any three domestic airports serviced by Thai Air for $169 USD...you can buy additional coupons for $59 USD each...Only a 2006 program and the coupons have to be used by March 2007...Still a fair deal if you're plannning on traveling to Phuket or wherever while in LOS...I seem to recall paying a good deal more for a RT from BKK to Phuket...

Flying from NYC look for a courier flight if you do not plan on carrying alot of clothes and stuff. There are some for around $600 to $700 with a checked in bag also through there courier sight on japan airlines.
