              • (jimbo34 @ Apr. 25 2010,05:54) OliverFFM (I know you're mainly on the other Forum) I just need to make this point so that Johnny doesn't make the same mistake:

Now, Oliver is a very nice, smartly dressed, fit German guy who visits us regularly. He arrived 2 nights ago bearing his gift of 'marmalade'. Now, don't think i'm ungrateful, but...

Germany makes probably the best cars in the world, the best machinery, some top-notch cameras and lenses. Some pretty good wine too, but...

When it comes to cuisine, i have to say you're rubbish. Of the 14 european countries i've visited, Germany ranks...14th. Even your speciality: sausages, are rubbish! Now i know why....

                THIS IS JAM !!

Just pulling your leg a bit, Olly, don't take offence. You're a great guy, and it was a lovely thought.
Its funny that you posted that..

I was actually thinking of bring you some grape jelly along with some marmalade to try for variation from the .

Scratch that idea. Marmalade only as per the Jimbo

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

ah, ze rosbifs don't conssiderr zemsselvze to be european!

                  for the record:
Marmalade is a sweet preserve with a bitter tang made from citrus fruit, sugar, water, and (in some commercial brands) a gelling agent. In English-speaking usage "marmalade" invariably refers to a preserve derived from a citrus fruit, most commonly from oranges. The recipe includes sliced or chopped fruit peel, which is simmered in fruit juice and water until soft; indeed marmalade is sometimes described as jam with fruit peel. Such marmalade is most often consumed on toasted bread as part of a full English breakfast. The favoured citrus fruit for marmalade production in the UK is the "Seville orange", Citrus aurantium var. aurantium, thus called because it was originally imported from Seville in Spain; it is higher in pectin than sweet oranges, and therefore gives a good set. Marmalade can also be made from lemons, limes, grapefruits, or a combination of citrus fruits.

next time bring Jimbo some orange or lemon jam.

                      • You won't need notes Johnny. Your trip will be indelibly imprinted on ya brain.

I can still recall most of my first trip....... in 1976. I can remember things clearer from then, than stuff I did last month.

I also want to wish you all the best for your trip even though I worry that you are vunerable to the girl's games. They are good at dropping the guilt trip on first timers.

But you can only work it out by experiencing it. Harden your heart enough so they can't all take advantage of you but not so much that you miss all the fun.

Because Sanuk* is part of Thai culture & helps explain why Thailand is so unlike any other country on earth.

Here's the meaning of Sanuk taken from a Thai website:

The word "sanuk" means to have a good time, to enjoy oneself and to derive pleasure and joy from something.

A slang variant for the word is "man", which describes the feeling one can get when munching one's favorite food.

It is almost a rule of living for Thai people that whatever they do have to be "sanuk".

The concept of "sanuk" goes beyond the having of a good laugh or a good time at a dance or a performance.

Damn, I learn something new every day - "man" is something I didn't know. "Man, oh man, this stuff tastes good" It all makes sense now...
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

Pacman, Jimbo, Alaskan Bear, Ivor Biggun, Lemontree, Spare Wheel and the rest of the board members that have chimed in and put up with all my newbie excitement, I thank you all! Yes I am sure that I will be fresh meat for the lions but I will remember to click my heels three time and repeat "I am a butterfly, I am a Butterfly" I will do my best to bring the board members a good trip report and will report all of the ups and downs that I experience. I am sure that from the moment I step off the plane untill I get back on again I will make a mistake a minute but I promise that I will not buy the water buffalo, medicine for the sick water buffalo or become a sponsor. I promise to be of good heart and treat the girls with respect while still continuing to repeat "I am a Butterfly, I am a Butterfly" while clicking my heels together. With my luck all of the girls will think that I am daft or nuts and belong in the loonie bin but I am sure they will understand eventually. Marmalade at the ready I am down to the last of couple of days! I am writing this at midnight because I am getting a little to excited to sleep but figure I can sleep on the plane. Yeah right, maybe on the way back.

                          • Manarak - thanks for posting the true definition of marmalade: it'll prevent further mishaps.

Whore: - you're a woos. Good marmalade has peel.

Johnny: - i agree with your earlier post about taking notes. I always forget names, the order that i visited bars, the BMs i meet, etc etc. Write it up each morning before starting your day. Number the photos. It'll make for a better story on here, and will make more sense once you get home.
                            See you soon.

Ivor: If you think that pap was good bread, you've been here too long brother! The Daily Telegraph has more taste than that, and at least with the Telegraph you digest the news!
