I also doubt it.....but as an asthmatic, any time i spend in a smoke filled bar or club will be very limited. one day.....probably not in my lifetime, operators may realize the longer patrons stay ,the more they spend, and the better the environment, the more often they return. not my cash flow that's affected....saves me money.

(stogie bear @ Nov. 07 2007,11:24)as most really have no choice but as they may not have any other job available to them...
Many bar people do not have any other skills to be able to have the luxury of choosing any job.
It is only mildly inconvenient to ask a smoker to go outside but it makes a world of difference to the health of the employees. I worked as a bar manager for a few years and I developed chronic bronchitis during that time. After I left it was miraculously cured.
Also no evidence to suggest patronage and therefore revenue has gone down in fact the people who I talk to who work in this industry that I worked with years ago tell me the opposite is in fact true.

The scaffolding analogy doesn't work as scaffolding in Thailand is bamboo shoots and string. NOT like where YOUR home town is.

Obviously the best paying jobs require the most sacrifice. Maybe they could work in Chinese coal pits?

I am talking about what should happen not what does happen.
As far as choosing any job let me put this another way. Some people might say if they don't like working in smokey places then find another job but why should they? I believe everyone deserves to work in an safe workplace.
So if banning smoking makes it a safer workplace for the employees and generally improves the bottom line then why not do it?
