  • Sad news in Pattaya

I was sad to learn yesterday of the passing of Didi the owner of Didi's bar who lost his long battle against cancer a few days ago .

A friendly guy who always went out of his way to welcome any customers to his bar ,and one of the few bar owners in Pattaya who actually bought his customers a drink

I recall the first time I met him , around 3 years ago I'd just popped in for a late night ladyboy takeaway from his bar , with only a few hundred baht in my pocket for a few beers and a barfine .
Anyway we got talking and he insisted on a few rounds of shots on the house , when I told him I couldn't return the favour he told me not to worry I could have a drink and pop in the next day and settle the bill (which I did ) all the time my barfine for the night looking on worriedly incase I decided to change my mind and stay up all night drinking with her boss instead .

A decent gesture from a guy who had only just met me , but then thats what he was a decent guy .

Pattaya fans will recall Didis bar had its heyday around 2-3 years ago when it was situated at the 2nd road end of soi 7 , the bar was a perfect place to end your night with a lovely group of ladyboys in attendance , the lovely Rose , Pat , Aem , Som and Nok amongst others always around .

Unfortunately the bar had to move in early 2007 because of an extension to the Flipper Hotel , but the bar found a new home in Pattaya Central Road , but now being a little off the beaten track it failed to retain many of its original line up , but a few ladyboys could always be found in the new venue .

I always made a point every trip of calling in at the new venue for a quick beer , and Didi as always was sat at the bar with a warm greating

So here's to Didi and some great Pattaya memories
Free your mind and your ass will follow .

I met Didi for the first time about 5 weeks ago. A surprise vodka shot appeared in front of me at his bar. He was at the opposite end od the bar, and I was chatting up one of the girls. I reciprocated, and we chatted for a couple of hours. Almost immediately, it was obvious he wanted just to talk to someone about his heallth issues ( he said he had lost 37 kgs since the cancer was diagnosed) ... and the impact its spread was having on him)Iwas near to tears and felt almost privilidged that he opened up the way he did that night. He knew he only had a few weeks left......but he told me he loved Didi`s as a `hobby` which gave him an ongoing interest....even though as a successful engineer in Germany in his former life, he did not need the money.
Condolenences to his wife and family. He struck me as a really good guy for whom I gained tremendous respect in the very short time I had in his company. I hope he he is happy in his next life!

A very nice guy and sad news. Always very friendly and welcoming to me and always plying me with lemon vodkas

I remember the last time I saw him , he had changed from the larger than life friend to a a shrunken, bald shell - obviously the chemo had been tough

          I will remember him fondly

          RIP Didi
          No honey, no money!!

            Hi Jim,

Have alot of fond memories myself of the original bar in Soi 7.

As you say, Didi came across as a decent guy, and whilst I can't claim to know him particularly well, I always found him friendly to those drinking and his staff.

Sad to hear of his passing away....RIP Didi.

            Cheers

              Sorry news.

I enjoyed the temporary bar they had on 2nd Road - the front of the Brauhaus between Soi 8 and Klang.

Many a pleasant evening in his venue(s). Larger than life character who could drink like a fish!

That's shitty news... Didi was really good to both of us whenever we went to his old bar on soi 7 and there were a few times, despite never EVER successfully having pulled from there..

Like others have said he always bought drinks, always stopped for a yarn but more than that, he was always very non-plussed about us being freaks about lb's when not everyone is...

More sad news from Didi's Bar - I just heard that Nok, who was a fixture at Didi's, died about the middle of May. Aem said that she died from a smoking related lung disease and that she had difficulty breathing for a long time.

Nok was a lovely person, it's true the good ones go first.

                                       Rest in Peace  Nok

I remember the first time we met back in 2006 Tel, we were both sat in Didi's on opposite sides of the bar and you were having a lengthy chat with Nok.

We were then joined by 69Billy and costassg, Happy Days

Even though I was more "affliated" with Aem I have always liked Nok and found her a really lovely person.

I heard that Nok had passed away while I was in Pattaya in May and it came as a real shock to the system

                            R.I.P. Nok

                              Hope she can RIP.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.
