I was sad to learn yesterday of the passing of Didi the owner of Didi's bar who lost his long battle against cancer a few days ago .
A friendly guy who always went out of his way to welcome any customers to his bar ,and one of the few bar owners in Pattaya who actually bought his customers a drink
I recall the first time I met him , around 3 years ago I'd just popped in for a late night ladyboy takeaway from his bar , with only a few hundred baht in my pocket for a few beers and a barfine .
Anyway we got talking and he insisted on a few rounds of shots on the house , when I told him I couldn't return the favour he told me not to worry I could have a drink and pop in the next day and settle the bill (which I did ) all the time my barfine for the night looking on worriedly incase I decided to change my mind and stay up all night drinking with her boss instead .
A decent gesture from a guy who had only just met me , but then thats what he was a decent guy .
Pattaya fans will recall Didis bar had its heyday around 2-3 years ago when it was situated at the 2nd road end of soi 7 , the bar was a perfect place to end your night with a lovely group of ladyboys in attendance , the lovely Rose , Pat , Aem , Som and Nok amongst others always around .
Unfortunately the bar had to move in early 2007 because of an extension to the Flipper Hotel , but the bar found a new home in Pattaya Central Road , but now being a little off the beaten track it failed to retain many of its original line up , but a few ladyboys could always be found in the new venue .
I always made a point every trip of calling in at the new venue for a quick beer , and Didi as always was sat at the bar with a warm greating
So here's to Didi and some great Pattaya memories
