10 bar managers arrested in Soi 6 inspection of venues.

 We joined a team of officers from the Banglamung District Licensing Unit who were backed up by €œOpo po lor€ Civil Volunteers as they conducted a check on bars along the entire stretch of Soi 6 also known as Soi Yodsak. The group made checks on liquor licenses and also checked for the presence of CCTV Cameras which is a new requirement for entertainment venues here in Pattaya. Details of specific licensing irregularities were not given to us but we can report that 10 Bar Managers were detained for further questioning due to problems with their licenses. The group will continue their checks during the next 3 days so if you do own a bar, especially in the Central Pattaya area, you can expect a visit from this group of officials.

A fight in front of the 7-11 convenience store at Jomtien Nivate on Thappraya Road on Monday night led to the arrest of four young men, one of whom was driving a Bangkok-registered taxi that had been involved in an accident with a baht bus earlier in the evening.
The problems were caused by the over-inflated testicles of the new boyfriend of a 15-year-old Thai girl. Her new paramour decided he needed to ensure his sweetheart€™s previous boyfriend, who worked at the 7-11 store near Jomtien Nivate, didn€™t get any ideas about rekindling his relationship.
So, gathering three friends together they set off in a Bangkok-based taxi and armed with lumps of wood with the intention of bashing the 18-year-old ex-boyrfriend.
On the way they had a minor accident with a baht bus and then threatened the songthaew driver with violence. He, in turn, went off to Soi 9 station to report the incident while the brave gang of four, with the new girlfriend in tow, made their way to the showdown at the 7-11.
Apparently, the ex-boyfriend had been forewarned of the group€™s intentions and marshaled his own group of friends to come to his aid. A fight ensued between the two groups but when police were called the fighters scattered. The four-man group took off towards north Pattaya in the distinctive Bangkok taxi but were stopped and apprehended by a police roadblock near the Montien Hotel in central Pattaya.
One man had suffered injuries to his arms after smashing his lump of wood against the glass of the 7-11 store only to have the glass respond in a manner he didn€™t expect, leading to the potential Mensa candidate suffering a nasty cut to his arm.
Police took the group back to the Soi 9 station while they searched unsuccessfully for the other gang. Although there is no law against being brain dead, the gang of four now face charges of assault and malicious damage.

Oh Fuck -- I REALLY don't want to be caught on camera walking into Hi Boss or any other bar on Soi 6. I think I will start wearing a sombrero when I go to Pattaya.

PS does the law specify that the camera has to actually be turned on or that someone needs to watch it ?

BTW - true story, last year they put CCTV cameras in the deep south where the bombings were. But did not approve a budget to pay for them, so they were off for the first few months.

"The Mensa Candidate"...that's a classic.

BTW...there was a study of the Tambons (villages) in rural Thailand who received Thaksins free money for businesses. Those Tambons run by women had done fairly well investing it in things for the village. Those run by men were a total failure. One example given was where the Tambon decided to buy mobile phones for each of the male members. Unfortunately, there was wireless service in that Tambon, and the phones were useless.
