Last time i was apartment hunting , the LB i was with said after looking at 2 places this will do im tired i dont want to look anymore...
Funny - I almost mentioned this in my previous post. Getting a Cascades girl up and ready for work during the day and hop-scotching around Bangkok doing something for someone else is gonna be your hardest (and most admirable) accomplishment!

Also - Good point about the visa days... I had noticed this myself (even on entry stamps) that the 30 day allowance is infact 29 days!

You can get the 7 day extension by having a note from the Dr. saying you are sick and cannot travel. Just tell Doc you have 'Bangkok Belly' and cannot fly, ask for a note, show that to Immigration, they'll give you an emergency 7 day extension (1900 Baht I think)

(newcomer @ Mar. 25 2007,18:56) Okay i am sure there is more but its a start.
im sure there is no more to say...the list you made is more a wanna buy than wanna rent but was a good list however...in BKK if you stay away from sukumvit and other tourist places you can rent a nice serviced apt for 7K-10K b/mo...if you have trusted thai friends is ok if not better to take an agency.

And also living away from Nana will add some reality to a life in Thailand and not the freak show that we see (and want) while on holiday.

              monkeyman,

the way you describe it you can stay here forever as a tourist as far as every 6 months you leave the country for 8 days (or 6 or whatever, that is normal if you think that anyone of us has to visit his family once a while). Could you explain us all better this because I think that New Thailand law allow ONLY 3 tourist visa entries of 30 days per year.

I will anyway ask my human resources but it is better not to raise questions to the "wrong thai people"

As far as i know Diablo , there is no restriction on the amount of Tourist Visa 60 days you can have per year to enter thailand , however there is a restriction on the amount of visa on arrival or visa at the border stamps you can have , this restriction is 90 days every half year . So thats like 3 X 30 day stamps every 183 days or so .

Some very good advice on this thread and thanks to all for taking the time to add their thoughts.

I arrived in BKK on Monday night as planned after a stressful last few weeks getting organised. But a relief to finally be here. Very early days yet so still a bit like a holiday for me but will so how things progress in the coming weeks/months.

I understand now....unfortunately...that you can get them stacked before you enter...That is, from at least one consulate in the USA you can get up to three (3) 60 day tourist visas at one time...that means you could stay 6 months without having to leave...I have no idea how extensions would work inside Thai...but assume you could likely add a month to the 3rd visa...

I don't know how it works in other countries, but if you are a USA citizen, you only have to submit an application, your passport, a couple pics and $25 usd...

I am going home for a brief visit soon and I'll let you all know...

Yes mate as far as location and price I could not be happier. I am in sukhumvit soi 1 and so only a short walk to Guess bar or Nana plaza. The place has great security with biometric hand and thumb print required to get in the door and also have a security parked out the front 24/7. Nice pool which funningly never seems to have many people in it so good for the shy ladyboy to put a bikini on and join me for a swim.

The skytrain is also very close and within walking distance is some nice Thai food, a Tops supermarket, Foodland, Bumrungrad hospital.

Sounds like you got a good deal that fitted pretty much all your requirements. Well done.

Any downsides or events that didn't meet your expectations now that you have been here a while?

Your thoughts as a seasoned visitor and recent immigrant would make some useful reading for many people here who (like Stewart) have a thought or two of spending more time here.
