I'd like to live in the US (New Orleans French Quarter) for the football season and in Thailand for the rest of the time with maybe a month or so in the UK for family and chums.

On their own, Thais will not gravitate happily to other countries, (although I hear Kai, Jellybean and their new puppy are doing well in bonny Scotland!)

There is too much that we don't know about your circumstances to even make any kind of guess as to what would be best for you and your friend.

the French Quarter is great....well pre hurricane is was and supposedly had minimal issues, BUT, you certainly can't be a Saints fan?
      ....so,  you're really a guy?..............

Actual I know several Thais who have made the move to the states in the last few years and enjoy it. Mostly they are motivated by the money they can make compared to Thailand. One is a ladyboy who teaches in a local wat and also working in a Thai restraurant she is working on her green card. Another married a english teacher and came back. Another married a friend and left her 7 year old son at home with mom and dad. Another is married to a older falang he allows her to have her affairs with younger men and they all fall in love with her, but no way is she leaving her long time husband.
All of these girls got home sick at the beginning but worked thru it and have adjusted to life in the US. They all miss the food from home. Another friend and his wife are back in Thailand after 5 years in the states and 2 years in Korea, she told my girl friend the only problem she had was the food even in the Thai restraurants it is not the same.
They can adjust and do adjust.

(stogie bear @ Jun. 17 2007,03:03) I'd like to live in the US (New Orleans French Quarter) for the football season and in Thailand for the rest of the time with maybe a month or so in the UK for family and chums.
Given enough money I'd like to divide my time between New York, New Orleans, St John, Thailand, Bali, and Italy. I think the French Quarter is great but unfortunately the deserted streets towards Esplanade are not the safest blocks to walk late at night.

Like Laffite's Blacksmith Shop for a quiet drink and wouldn't mind anearby apartment with balcony.

And was sucking a bead ho's breasts in the garden at Pat O's.

Interesting that the Eastern USA/Carribean hurricane season overlaps with the Andaman Coast rainy season with September being peak hurricane time and perhaps the rainiest month in the LOS.

I've found that the hi-so Thais I am friends with from university, work, etc. don't seem to mind being in the US at all. In fact, most of them have preferred it and the ones that don't seem to have family dynasties and businesses have chosen to remain here.

At any rate, I'd never live in Thailand. I find it far too hot, crowded, and dirty for my tastes. It's a great place to visit and stay for awhile, but I could never imagine living there myself.
I'm a rough-ridin', hootin' and hollerin', ladyboy lovin' cowboy! Bang bang yer dead!!!

trocks69, this is an attempt to translate what pr90 wrote.

My question about Thailand, I hear how hard it is to go there for a long stay. Is it as much trouble to live in Thailand as I keep hearing?

I prefer hot weather, I hate Alabama winters since it hurts my bones.

pr90, if I am wrong, please correct this. It is very difficult to understand some of your posts.

pr90, no one is calling you a retard, and although some of the members have been having a bit of fun with your posts - don't take it personally. If you have been in other forums you will read things that are much worse.

There is a good post about visas here:

                        Visa Update

Another good place to read about the Thai visa situation is Thai Visa.com however not all the information on there may be 100% accurate. I would suggest that you verify anything from this site.

It would also be a good idea to contact the Thai embassy in the USA.

Can you please say what your Native language is. It will then make it easier to accurately translate your English if we know approx where you come from. Keep on posting.

Looking at a thread on Thaivisa about visa run, there are different experiences as there are posters. It is really hard to get it sorted out.
In the end Singapore won as the best place to go for visa, Burma the worst, and Laos as not to bad. If you have the money and want a holiday some where else fly out and get your visa but come in with a 60 day tourist visa and then get a 30 day extension.
