but an apt with a 200 sq meter room w/no pillars and a 12' ceiling could just do the trick i believe, though i'm not quite ready to surrender the dream of a "view" even if it require that i make some adjustments in my definition of 'beautiful'.
Ziggy introduced me to this place. The agent showed me in and they had to send out a search party for me 30 mins later....it was fucking massive.

One HUGE central living room plus 3 (or 4?) decent sized bedrooms plus kitchen/maids room the lot. The one I saw was on the 4th floor I think, and had plenty of light.....would be even better on the hign floors.

And they were quoting 60k baht per month 9 months ago

Check out a shophouse, girl friend rented one for a while, in the area around Dom Muang for her business. She says the rent was about 7,000 baht a month one room with a/c. She also rents a shophouse for family Sukhumvit soi 48 12,000baht a month including all utilities.

In case your not aware the standard for building in Thailand is that the roof structure is held up by pillars, not supporting walls and these pillars are more often than not either 4 or 5m apart (approx 12 to 15 feet). This limits the amount of 'free and open space' you will ever find in a building as the other option is that the builder needs to use huge steel joists to create cros sections between the pillars. As the steel joists are way more expensive than regular steel and concrete pillars, they are not used often. You can see that they have been used in shopping malls, hotels, office buildings etc, but in most residential housing incl condo's if they are more economy orientated or just old, they will be using the 4 or 5m spaced pillar system.

Loft living has never taken off in Thailand, which is actually crazy as the place lends itself to having breezes blowing through a wide space, but for some reason its not popular. Basically if you have the money in the first place, you want something brnad new (Thai thinking), not some 40 year old converted warehouse. Equally surprising is the lack of residential property overlooking the Chao Praya River in Bangkok. Again, its considered smelly, floods and full of dirty run off from drains which tends to put many Thai buyers off.

My suggestion would be to rent a Townhouse in somewhere like Bangkok and look for one that meets your requirements as near as you can get it - some people have being doing upgrading however few of them end up available for rent. Your probably going to find, what is available is extremely blandly done with little thought of best using light, space etc. If your looking at a beach/sea position, then you have few options but for a condo and generally the older the better in terms of overall size but equally they will tend to look very dated for the most part.

        Cheers

          thanks, mardhi

my standards for acceptability with regard to my dream loft are plummeting as quickly as my standards for ladyboy beauty rose when i first came to LOS.

all things considered i guess i'll settle for a big ugly space or a smaller well-lit space just so long as either space constantly features one or more semi-dressed and unmatchably beautiful ladyboy-models to fill the inspirational void left by bland architecture & geography.

although a loft high high above the chao praya river would be pretty cool...especially if i'm looking at it over the naked shoulders of some of the guess girls...
