BigTel made two very simple and straightforward statements, both of which are true. I don't see any flawed logic being possible since he wasn't even stating a conclusion based on the first two premises.
I don't care about how people are qualified as nutso's; you brought up that straw-man argument. I don't care about people talking to invisible gods, I care about people who want to cut off my head. This week a Christian man in Pakhistan was abducted and gang-raped by 30 men while they beat him and directed him to convert to Islam. When was the last time you heard of Buddhists, Christians, or Hindu's do that?

But most of the cases are in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia which are in the midst of civil wars between Sunni and Shia. You can't call these jihadist in the Qur'anic sense (do you know the meaning of the term?)
Recognize that in Iraq, these forces would have been contained if we had left Saddam Hussein in power ... he was a secular leader whose model was Stalin. So the blame for these 'jihads' as you call them have to fall squarely on the shoulders of Bush-Cheney-Rumsfelt who wantonly targeted Saddam on false pretenses.

I guess you skipped over the ones that happened yesterday in London, and the ones in Thailand on a daily basis, or Malaysia. Not to mention the bombing of the USS Cole, and the first attack on the WTC in 93.
I'm not really sure I see your point groundhog. You seem to want to stick your head in the sand and pretend this isn't happening, or that it's not a big deal, or that Bush somehow caused it to happen.
I own a Qur'an that is well marked with highlighter marker and has color coded indexed tabs to relevant passages about women, war and attack, money and economics, Jews and Christians, and converting, killing, or subduing "unbelievers".
Do you own a Qur'an, have you really read it? Â Really? Â Honestly? Â Every twelvth verse is an instruction to kill or convert infidels. Â
I don't really understand people who say "Oh, it's just a civil war between Sunni and Shia". As if that puts in in a little box all wrapped up and easily disposed of. That civil war phrase is just a polite way of saying Muslims are slaughtering other people, including other Muslims in the name of religion, and by using terrorist attacks. Â So you've basically argued my point for me.
These forces were not "contained" when Saddam was in power because most of them were not in Iraq. These people are coming in to the country from Syria and Iran. Every time coalition troops capture or kill terrorists in Iraq, they are carrying weapons and supplies manufactured months ago in Iran. As for those forces that were "contained" while Saddam was in power, they were "contained" by him slaughtering his own citizens, anyone who opposed him. Is that OK with you? You prefer to let Saddam do the killing, or at least the terrorists, but the US shouldn't ever kill anyone? You have some pretty weird logic yourself.
You also didn't mention Darfur, where Muslims are slaughtering Christians and other Muslims. You can't even make an argument that Bush caused other people to become terrorists when they have been doing the same thing since the 60's and 70's before anyone ever heard of Bush II. I own a Qur'an ( the Yusif Ali translation with side by side Arabic) and have read the translation completely, as well as some of the Hadith (though I haven't highlighted my Qur'an, which is a bit of a no no).
And I'd say that you haven't got it right on the content. About a third is commentary or extensions of Bible stories, and a lot of the rest deals with rules for daily living in the environment of 7th century Medina.

You haven't backed up any of your claims. You accused two people of logical fallacies without any explanation, you brought up a red herring of Christian terrorists which you haven't backed up.
Obviously you waded in over your head, why don't you just leave this thread since you have nothing to contribute. And BTW, why would I give a crap if someone else thinks marking up a Qur'an is a "no no"? I'm not afraid of invisible people, it's the followers that concern me.

You could make the argument(and I am) that the Iraq war is terrorism; state sponsored, but terrorism nonetheless. The country was attacked under clearly false pretenses. The people responsible for the attacks were mostly Christian and Jewish. The country has been wrecked and contaminated with D.U. By most estimates there have been over 60,000 civilian deaths since the invasion and subsequent occupation.
So there's your terrorism perpetrated by Christians.

The whole controversy over the three "Charlie's Angels" daughters and the satanic verses takes a big back seat to me, I'm much more concerned about the other 99% of the Qur'an that just says Jews are apes and pigs and even the rocks will cry out to murder them when a Jew hides behind a rock.
What in the world would make you think I favor any religiously mandated "fatwa"? Rushdie is a fiction writer, and not a particularly good one at that. His novel TSV is the only reason anyone has heard of him. Much like the musical "Rent", controversy alone has created the hype.
This and the mohammed cartoon incident just goes to show you, this is people who hold invisible people in the sky more important than other human beings. My point being that these are not wacko outsider muslims- these are the people who are actually reading the book and applying what it says as open ended commands.
I originally asked for input and verification that these things are actually happening in Thailand on a daily basis, and I got that. BTW, did you know that Muhammed's 11th wife (Safiyaa) was Jewish ... it was a political marriage (he was probably too old to get it up by that time). At the time, there was little difference between the Arabian Jews and Muslims... most of the Arabian Jews were illiterate (as was everyone at the time) and didn't know much about their own religion. The Qur'an definitely does not have a lot to say about them, and certainly doesn't talk about killing them. That's just silly.
Rushdie ... I love the guy; he is a brilliant writer ... though if you are just starting out, I'd say Midnight's Children is the best. He uses lots of big words, though, so you may want to yank out your Funk&Wagnalls
