I tend to be selective in eating street food - I follow the common sense things like trying to go where I see locals eating, avoiding vendors that don't seem to be doing any business, buying "freshly" cooked food and avoiding things that look like they have been sitting out for awhile. End of the day is, you are likely to get sick from any amount of sources while in LOS or other 3rd world countries. It's fact that our immune systems won't handle the germs and bacteria found in their foreign enviroments that well. Keep your wits about you and roll with the punches I say.

Herself does exactly what DP says and I eat most of the things she does but not some of the really hot stuff!
We've eaten many times on the street and so far I have only had one fairly mild attack of the runs - so did Herself at the same time.
Not quite sure what it was but favourite was either some fish or much more likely the icecubes in the water.
A couple of comments;
It's a natural reaction of your body to get rid of what ever is poisoning it - either out the top or out the bottom
It's better to let the runs take their course if possible rather that taking things to block you up.
OK I know there are times like when you are travelling that you have no choice.
Antibiotics are OK if prescibed as they just help to kill the bugs - but they will also increase the runs
Also remember you are losing body fluids so drink plenty of water/fruit juices/tea/even beer within reason to replace what you lose.
If you get dehydrated at the same time you will feel worse.
RR.Pedants rule, OK. Or more precisely, exhibit certain of the conventional trappings of leadership.

I eat street food all the time, but it took me a while to build up my tolerance. I did get sick a few times the first year. Also keep in mind you can get sick of dirty utensils, watch out for dirty spoons, chopsticks etc.."Snick, You Sperm Too Much" - Anon

Simple.....
When Traveling, I Only Drink Liquids Bottled and Sealed. Also, Never let them pour it into a Glass With Ice
I Stay Clear of Street Food in General and only Eat in Inside Shops with Proper Washrooms
I was Sick Twice in China and Thailand, because Each Time, I had Ice in My DrinksYou Live and You Learn -- Hopefully!

just another note on this. i feel if you never eat this kind of food you will have little tolerance against the germs floating around in it.Its a bit like keeping a child in cotton wool and not letting it get dirty. the child then is very seceptable to germs when in contact with them.
as for water i drink bottled and sometimes the free stuff at the vendors. Use the tap for cleaning my hamsteadsjust a sex tourist looking for hot fun
