No, no Beefy not her account, with some luck you just may get your own account at her bank if they like her.

Called the New York Branch of Bangkok Bank the other day and the lady I talked to said that they do not open accounts there.

Go with mardi sounds like a quick way to get an account.

On reflection being from Oz probably makes a difference. Those suffering from national inferioity complexes probably could encounter difficulty.

From everything I have heard its completely random, according to the law they should not do it. But many times they will. Just try every bank you can find. Someone also suggested it is better to speaker to an older guy who is not a bank officer, since they are less likely to ask permission from someone higher up.

I don't know if Pattaya Banks are any easier than bangkok.

The Bangkok Bank branch on Sukhumvit let me open one with a hotel address only, several few years back. No WP, but no hassle.

Look forward to seeing you BB. I've got the same number. Gimme a bell.

why do you want a thai account?
why not just access your funds direct from home via your own atm card??? as long as it has that (maestro) logo on it you can get money from your own account? $4-50c aus per transaction so find an atm that issues 1000 bhat notes and 20 at a time ($2 quid)
this way you get 20k per $4-50c transaction feee
or are you carrying load s of cash form untoward activities back in blighty?? need a dicy thai bank acount??
just a sex tourist looking for hot fun

as for always using our atm cards, banks these days card $4-5 atm fee and 1.5-2.5 % foreign currency fee

getting a thai account seems more than reasonable
for those of us planning 2-3 trips a years
                        and/or considering the final move~~

                          Hello Donnny,

I think you answered your own question!

The usual rate in the UK is about £1.50/transaction (About AUS$3.00)
There is one UK Building Society (Savings and Loans) that charges nothing for foreign cash withdrawls.

I seem to remember in another thread someone mentioned a US bank that also did not charge.

If I was you I would do a good internet search for banks in Aus that at least charge less than $4.50.

My Thoughts were also.....................Why do you even need one?
If you have online banking and a good bank at home, just using an ATM card and online is enough.

I use online banking to move funds and pay bills. I use the ATM for withdraw of cash with no fees at all ...getting the current rate of exchange.

Re Bit Beefy's comment about Nationwide wanting you to move your bank account to them if you open up an acount.

Open it on-line; I did and it's just another account (albeit without any interest given). They opened it without any problem. I only put money in when I travel overseas and have kept all my other accounts with other banks. I also have their credit card which also does not add any foreign transaction charges which saves a further 2 - 25 %. And it's easy to use on-line which is good for extended travel

Just back from Patts where I walked into Kasitornbank on Pattaya Tai the big one by Tuk Com and opened an account including Debit Card with zero problem. Just need a passport, address in Thailand and 300 bhat for the card. I got the impression they are doing this every day and it was no big deal at all.
