  • HSBC Offshore sucks too!

I have had it up to the back teeth with the shit service and constant blocking of ATM and credit cards, and blocking of internet banking access from HSBC Offshore (Jersey).

For an offshore bank supposedly created for expats, they dont seem to understand that yes, I withdraw money in VN (where I work) and TH (where I live.) Hence cards get blocked without notice at the most inconvenient times.

Nor can they get their pointy little heads around the fact that my IP address changes... Isn't that why we have Offshore accounts and Internet banking? Hence internet banking gets blocked at inconvenient times and takes 48 working hours (as I was told,) to restore.

(A Question: is 48 working hours two dilligent IT dudes in white coats and pocket protectors working feverishly around the clock to restore my banking privledges? Or is it 6 working days? I did ask the Filipina/Indian/Malaysian chick in the call centre, and she didn't know either.)

    SO:

Is there another offshore bank anyone can recommend?

    or

Can I fly to HK and open a bank a/c there without residency?

Please don't suggest Sing-lah-pore. I refuse to enter the house of many cams. Its far too big brother and filled with the laziest, most inefficient twats on the planet.

I do have Kasikorn and Ayudhya accounts in TH, but dont want all my eggs one basket.

    Any advice appreciated!

    Cheers,

    JF

Try this first: use a VPN for your online banking so your IP address will remain constant. I am pretty sure if you PM Bam our tech guru, he can give you great advice on that.

Second, send a registered letter to your bank stating you will be using your card internationally, and that they must acknowledge your request by return correspondence. Suggest that they can contact you by SMS should suspicious transactions occur (give them your mobile number), rather than block your ATM card.

If this fails look into the Royal Bank of Canada offshore services.

          Good luck!

My UK Bank puts a security block on my ATM action, whenever i try to withdraw the max in Thailand.  I phoned them, and they said its an automatic computer prog which they can't reset just for TTChang.  What happens is that i wait 2 hours after a refusal ...... for human intervention, then it works.  Manual override

Do most of my banking through K Bank now, who are very good (except if you want a bright green clad member of their staff to use their initiative ......  'Cannot'   TIT !!!)
