This page provides information for anyone in Thailand who is applying to renew an existing British passport.
It used to be that you could just roll up to the horrible and disorganized embassy in Bangkok and get a renewal but this is no longer the case.

It usually just takes a couple of weeks but I'd recommend a window of a month!
You do NOT have to mail in your old passport. But if you decide not to then you must send a clear photo copy of the details page. Also - your passport will be remotely canceled as soon as they get your application for a new passport.
It makes obvious sense to use registered express mail for this kind of transaction...
