(Steff @ Jul. 19 2010,05:22) Guys, the best beer in the world as God Himself intended is a HOPPY Pale Ale. The hoppier the better.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is great stuff. I tend to agree with you on this one. The best beer doesnt really taste great, but it will drop the hammer quick. Hence the beer on Ice fer me.
(daveduke007 @ Jul. 20 2010,06:44) I take it your quite partial to a Bud or TEN too Mark
Its not my favorite. But it is Cheap and when you drink as much as I do, you need to pinch your pennies $$$.
Desequies XX Ale is my second favorite but it is $17. a twelve pack.
My first favorite is; Seirra Nevada Pale Ale is $18 a twelve pack.
Budwieser is only $9. a twelve pack.
I drink atleast twelve a day so I only buy the good stuff on weekends.
I'm not much of a beer drinker these days. It just leaves me feeling bloated and tired.
However, I do enjoy a nice cold beer or two with a meal when it's really hot. When I'm in Thailand I like the occasional Singha with a meal.

I agree w/ Steff and Mirimark Sierra Nevada is great but I prefer the hoppier version they make called Torpedo it's higher in ABV at 7.2% so it doesn't take as much to get that buzz a 6pack will run you about $7.99 so it's not that expensive as for Budwieser at $9.00 a 12 pack why not go with PBR at $7.50 a 12 and get the same results?
(pacman @ Jul. 17 2010,23:48) I love the taste but I get a chemical hangover from more than 2 or 3...
What do they use to preserve beer in the tropics? I was told that most beer companies use formaldehyde.
I'm with you on this one Pacci, but I don't get a hangover with it, more like a mini break down.
& I was told by guy that worked at the Bintang factory, that all Draft beer in Indonesia has formaldehyde in it to give it a longer shelf life. I was told that without it the beer would go bad within days, so you would think it may well be the same in LOS
Went to see The Ladyboys of Bangkok Show in Manchester last night
Started off with Guinness in the bars beforehand and I felt great .
Had a good few Red Wines and Singha's during the Show, different story altogether, friggin lethal combination
I woke up with a very sore head this morning
Your got yer Mother in a whirl
Shes not sure if your a Boy or a Girl
I can't believe the number of votes for Singha. Having once seen the water trick of pulling the chemicals out of it- never again
I've notice it seems to be more of the visitors prefer it, compared to 'locals' in my perambulations around the various hostleries. San Mig seems to be taking a big market share at the moment. I did find Beer Lao for sale at B888 regular and B1388 Dark per case in Supercheap today.
it's a shame the 'Asiazone' freetrade agreement excluded beer ( courtesy of the Thai berwing lobby) so we could get it at sensible prices.
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here
OMG yes, why drink Singha nowadays and why is this leading the poll? You could go back a decade or more when it was the only Thai beer you could find and these others did not exist. But Singha is brackish and expensive and with the explosion of other beers it has no place in the market. Chang has a bitter taste, but it has a place because it is cheap which allowed it to dethrone Singha and also has a higher alcohol content. For Chang, I prefer Chang Draft. They made a beer that actually tastes good and did a good job of it. The prices have also gradually come down near the price of regular Chang but the problem is it is hard to find. I've been on a San Mig/light kick lately but that too is not so easy to find so I often go Leo.
Newbie tip: Do you know the Thai word for Singha has no second syllable? It's name is simply Sing. The "Ha" part is just a transliteration encoding nuance to help back port the word to the Thai characters that form the word. Sing means lion in Thailand. So there, you just learned a Thai word and how to order it by its real name.
