  • Can I Survive in Thailand?

    That's roughly 81,500 Baht a month, so 20,000 Baht a week.
I have been doing the Maths for some time now & I could easily live in LOS for that sort of money per week.
When your living full time in LOS you can pick up long term apartments for a month, what I have payed for a hotel room for the night.
Your not going to party every night, like you would whilst on holiday. You can eat for next to nothing, just eat where the Thais do.
But I will let the likes Bumper, TT, Rosco & Me old Dad tell you more, as they are living the dream right now.

    Good luck My man
    Be lucky,have fun & stay young !

There are lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of threads on this....

I will wait until RxPharm points you in the right direction.

yes you can live on it.

But what about the unforseen circumstance? Accident? medicals? The need to fly home?

        my thoughts too.
2500 USD is even very good if you are living alone.

Save 500 USD per month to have a little safety net.

About 20.000 baht rent for a nice 2 room condo including service lady doing the cleaning and laundry.

5 Star ultra-kick-ass health insurance at about 100 USD / month

        and you are all set.

That leaves you about 40.000 baht for living and ladyboy expenses, or you could say 1000 baht/day for living + 10.000 baht per month for partying.

should be plenty for a simple but safe lifestyle.

i'd love to learn more about this cheap kick-ass insurance.

any details? any links to share?

as for the OP's question: everybody's got their own definition of a comfortable lifestyle, but if you could live on $5000usd/month in the usa , then, imho, you can live a similar lifestyle for $2500usd/month in thailand--and if a sizeable percentage of your current budget is going toward "ladyboy fun", the savings in that area alone will allow you to live even better in thailand.

You could easily live on half that amount.

well, I have a friend who lives near me.....from Denmark, about 25 or so, very handsome guy.....he was amazed and wide-eyed when I told him my budget once; he gets by very well on about 15K a month {Thai baht} and fucks almost every night for no money, I've seen it.  Yes, his place is a dump fan-only room and he has no frills, but as he says "it's better than Copenhagen''. But you're right, PT; if this guy is middle-aged and wants to fuck hookers and get drunk every night, it's prolly not enough.

But even at 40K a guy could fuck regularly, just get a steady GF and not a hooker and live cheaply;  the old moderator here did it, he was a teacher when he first started in Thailand and had a steady girl, he made it by on LESS than 40K.   See the Huay Kwang thread; if this dude is half-way decent looking and young[ish] he can live there on the cheap and have a harem of ladyboys in his room day and night.

Again, I think this guy is joking and just winding us up; as Bumpa says,  ''It's more than enough. Get on a plane. ''

There are a few threads that have covered this topic:

                  Moving to Bangkok

Living in Thailand, how much does it cost?

Finding an apartment and teaching in Bangkok

Note that teaching jobs are more difficult to come by now - it appears that more schools are forgoing the "farang" native English speaking teaching and going for lower cost Asian English teachers - from Philippines, etc.

as usual  RX right on the ball

I am guessing the original poster could also find this type of info on a website like Thaivisa.com but that website is very hard to follow and if you asked a question like that there it would probably get deleted and you'd have 100 angry veterans yelling at you.....here we just harangue a bit

Your post was also a little vague also .....want to live in thailand on $2500 and screw ladyboys; who doesn't??  give more specifics on WHERE you want to live, how old you are, do you drink, smoke, chase hookers, etc.....  again, I have seen people live on anywhere from 15K baht to 200K and upwards, it all depends on tastes and lifestyle.

                      about the health insurance...
here is a french insurance broker specialized in covering "globe trotters":

                      http://www.frequence-expat.com

100% coverage (from the first spent baht, and based on the french social security tariffs) for my family and I (4 persons) is quoted at 3900 EUR for 12 months.
Valid anywhere except USA & Canada, in any hospital, any doctor, includes necessary health-preserving dentistry and basic optic correction.
It includes the cost of a medical evacuation to France if the cost of the treatment abroad is considered too high.

The low cost might be due to our relatively young age (I'm 37).

Make sure to ask about coverage abroad and in your home country (two separate things).

I use BUPA- currently around B13k a year. Valid world wide except the US. Straight accident policies available from the banks for around B2k a year (very handily includes MCs).
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here
