FWIW, the massage girls at a Pattaay Tai shop, mostly from Issan, are all pro Thaksin.

Guess the reasoning is that the traditional power elite put money in their pockets and did little for the little guy.

Thaksin put money in his pocket but at least threw the poor a boner.

   And that is how he built his power base. The poor will always vote for self interest, naturally, but there wouldn't be this divide if the other side had offered the impoverished regions equal help & money.

Hugo Chavez has shown all would-be dictators the way to hi-jack the democratic system to hold power. The US push to bring democracy to the 3rd world doesn't look so clever now.
