  • Who lives in Thailand?

Based on Sai's thread, lets see how many people who read this forum live in Thailand.

Unfortunately this room doesn't get many visitors; maybe it could eventually be moved to the Picture Post board

I live in a small 4 x 6 box (In the West) with only a computor, a small desk, a lamp and a paddle pong game. I hardly ever get out, but I'm very active in chat forums with some really interesting people from far away places who are all smarter than me. In fact they tell me everyday.

I turn 50 next February. I work 55-60 hours a week and its time for these old bones to relax. Maybe a title for a movie, " A Yank in PATTAYA" ? I like it.

by the time you move there  you will have deserved it for working so hard, so good for you.....

seems like only TWO people from this very small and un-scientific poll live in the land of ladyboys, the rest of us are still dreaming about ''someday''!!

I find myself crowding 58..... how the hell did that happen? Seems I was 38 just a few years ago....

Have an widowed mom who's getting older & I need to stick around for a few years for her sake, also rebuild my devastated retirement plan now after last year. Lived in many places in the US & I've ended up in a great spot, but like most here I dream of spending less time at the office now & more time with eating som tam with little Ae, or Lek, or.... & live near a palm tree for 35% of what it costs here. Also I will keep my apartment since I live in one of the world's great cities.
I think splitting my time between both places is my ideal balance & that will be possible when the mortgage is up in 7 years. (Sounds too long to me too but when I realize how the last 7 years blazed by, it's doable as my outside figure, 2 years is the inside.)

I'm also looking at the PI too.

Funny. That's how I feel about the UK!
I'm feeling rough and it's a combination of air and water...

For now I spend about 5 months out of the year in Thailand. The rest of time time I am in the USA working. For those who want to make the move to Thailand fulltime I would imagine you would have to change your mindset from when you are on hols there. Even if you had the do$h, I would think for 99% of blokes the non stop partying and shagging would get, well, a bit boring.

Well, as for me, I guess I'm currently between countries. I have lived abroad a few times in the past, always job-related. Started out on cruise ships when I was very young still, as a kind of male Julie - for those who are familiar with the Love Boat Show despite never really having it seen myself - on passenger vessels in the Mediterranean and Caribbean mainly. Then spent some years back home before leaving again for a government-job in Havanna for 4 years - still young and up to no good, I guess ;-)

Next some 13 years back home in the design business, working on my own, being able to save some funds. Getting older and as having no dependents, feeling the itch again to live abroad. Getting into teaching seemed a doable option to bring all interests under one hat. Even landed a job in Thailand for 2003 but then didn't go as a relationship back home "got in the way".

Early 2005 I left for China and lived and taught up north for a bit over 4 years. Have been playing with the idea to live longer in the LOS for some time but am not sure if I'll be able to do it all year round as there are so many other places I would like to visit and perhaps even stay for longer, some without lbs but that would only increase the desire when coming back.

This is now my 4th time this year in Pattaya and I'll be here until some point in Nov. Despite not being a bar-lover and being more of a quiet guy, I made some friends here who have been very helpful in teaching me the ropes in many ways - PD, Ozzie, Juri and a few more.

At this point I haven't decided what will come next but that is ok. Just know that my return flight to Thailand is on Feb. 8. Perhaps a situation with 3 months here and 3 months somewhere else might be the right one for me ... time will tell.

I find it interesting to read the others' stories, so I thought to chip in my own ...

                        Cheers

Yups, I would guess this as well.

and Stogie and I used to have a good chuckle at the vast numbers of guys who came to thailand to live, but would keep up their wild partying days and nights as if they were still tourists! Those types always fade fast; besides running out of cash they gat partied out and end up back wherever they came from broke and wishing they could go back to Bangkok.

This poll is actually much closer than I thought it would be!

many of you guys already live in Thailand, you lucky ducks

I live here and have for the past 5 years. Sold everything or gave away everything I owned except for my house and moved here and plan to stay in here until my heart stops ticking. Or until my hardon goes down!

After 5 years and numerous LT girlfriend (I have 2 permanent ones now - a Korean and a Thai) and god knows how many ladyboys, I have never once regretted my decision either.

                            Cheers,

I'm fast approaching my first decade in Thailand.

Sometimes I miss the West (mostly I just miss Western common sense and sanity , hahah!), but for the most part, I've completely integrated into my adopted home.

Most of my Thai friends say that I act more Thai than they do (and I'm not sure if they mean it as a compliment, hahah!)
