  • Missing student Michael Harrie...

    Hi guys.

Long time, no see.  Hope everyone is doing well, and really enjoying themselves.

There is an American veterinary student, Michael Harrie, who was studying in Japan and took a recent vaca to Thailand. He's been missing for about two weeks now. This may turn into the next Natalie Holloway story.

I was just wondering if anyone there knew anything from the local news, or rumors. Did he forget to tip the wrong mama-san? Decide to get into thai boxing? Try to smuggle heroin out of the country?

If anyone knows anything about the story, here's a thread to contribute. I just heard about this today, so I don't know much about the story yet. I didn't find a thread about it already here, so I hope I'm not duplicating anything.

He went to the airport for his return flight. Instead of checking in, the tapes show he exited the departures floor. That would indicate to me he has made a decision and doesn't want to be found just now.

He had drugs on him and at the last minute lost his bottle and fucked off.

      That's my guess...

He probably browsed suspiciously at the duty-free at the airport, and is now holed up in a pink hotel close to the airport.

US$ 10,000 cabled directly to a Sri Lankan volunteer translator may help get him on his way home.

        Amazing Thailand

Yes I thought i'd be locked up for that, wasn't a argument as such with the guy,i just said
suit yourself, crossed my arms and stormed off the plane asking the flight attendant to get my bag, then
had to be led through every backdoor of the airport to imigration re-stamped.Had some security guy wheel
my suitcase to the taxi, put it in the boot, and waved on my way..result!!

It appears that the news has been updated. Reports now say that immigration reports he "left Thailand of his own free will" and he has "called his parents".

This still leaves a lot of unanswered questions, and it seems like there is definitely something weird going on, but if he's safe then I guess all's well that ends well.

Naang Faa just curious was the window seat his or yours?? If it were his I dont blame him one bit-especially for a long flight. Did you know it wasnt a window seat BEFORE you got on the plane?? Working in the industry it pisses me off to no end when folks get on INSISTING in a window/aisle, no having it and gettig pissy when no one will change!!!

Absolutely.... on one trip I had secured an aisle seat, my preference, in Business from NYC-BKK. After takeoff a gent asked if I would trade seats so he & his girl could be together, but I would have gotten a window seat & I politely declined, regretfully, but the way his eyes widened in disbelief I could tell he hadn't even considered the possibility that that would happen.

I don't want to spend a 24 hour flight constantly tripping my old, large clumsy frame over the aisle seat occupant every time I stretch my legs or go to the gents or stop by the galley. I set my seat up months in advance usually. I was sorry, but I could tell he was really floored.

On a long flight no way am I giving up an aisle seat or bulkhead.

Maybe if the flight is only a couple hours if I'm in a good mood.

You dont pay for Business to be moved out of your chosen seat.

Plenty of opportunity to choose your seat beforehand
seriously pig headed, arrogant, double standard smart ass poster!

Got to agree with the chaps here Naang - if you didn't actually have a window seat through choice, I don't see how you can complain if you don't get a swap once on the plane. (I'm sure you'll explain it and all will be well... )

I flew from Dubai to Amsterdam two weeks ago (had to fly Economy - tight ass client) and was seriously pissed off when another passenger was already in my seat, the one I had requested and even reconfirmed through online booking.

The other passenger smiled weakly and said I should sit in the middle seat. Oh dear.

Major rant at this individual over and they drag themselves out of "my" seat and slump defeated into the middle one.

                            Hurrah! Mardy Scotsman 1, 65 year-old woman 0.

                            Well... it was the principle...

Yes, the seat was his,yes i knew when i checked in i had an aisle seat..
There is no harm in askng, and i did, politely,he refused...The only "demand"
was to get my bag from the hold..
I am a nervous flier,i am 95% ok near the window,so its not a preference
its a necessity..I have evey right to walk off a flight if i'm not comfoetable,no?
