haven't changed a thing between the 12 years I visited there, ignorant fuckers
Thailand is losing tourism literally by the plane loads since November, one of the main staples of their GDP ..... someone had better get their act together and soon, the punters who read here will always take their chances but regular tourists and backpackers can say "fuck it" and just go elsewhere.
could this whole mess affect songkran?Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I'll be going back to that Thai neighborhood we went to years ago. I'm guessing it'll still be going on there....nothing worth fighting over."Snick, You Sperm Too Much" - Anon

(bigmick22 @ Apr. 12 2009,17:18) the 6% probably doesn't include payment for sexual services.
The simple fact is the whole world is hurting at the moment.
Thailand is probably in a better position than most of the countries in the world to weather this depression and come out stronger at the other end.
That is if they don't purposely shoot themselves in the head in the mean time.
At the moment it looks like that is what they are trying to do.

(Snick @ Apr. 12 2009,00:43) Bangkok under state of emergency
Thai authorities have declared a state of emergency in the capital Bangkok and surrounding areas, a day after protests cancelled a major Asian summit.
The state-of-emergency decree suspends certain civil liberties, including the right to public gatherings and a free press. It also cleared the way for the government to call up military troops to tackle the protest mobs.

We should all stand up and take note; the great Australian PM has spoken:
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd warned Australians yesterday to reconsider holidays to Thailand after the violent protests that forced the cancellation of the summit of Asian leaders and led to a state of emergency being declared in Bangkok and surrounding provinces.
Yesterday, demonstrators fired into the air and attacked a car in the Thai Premier's convoy as he was being driven from the interior ministry. Mr Abhisit said he was safe and unhurt after the incident, and called for calm while threatening the use of force to restore order.
Speaking after an Easter Sunday service at the Church of St John the Baptist in Reid, just hours after arriving home, Mr Rudd said Australians travelling to the region should take care.
Mr Rudd's VIP aircraft was turned around mid-flight amid security concerns on Saturday. He arrived back in Canberra in the early hours of yesterday morning.
''My advice to Australians travelling to Thailand is please look carefully at the DFAT travel advisory. If you are in Thailand at the moment or travelling there, make sure you check the Australian Government website,'' he said.
