What are the pros and cons of 1-2-Call vs DTAC?

Price per minute?
Rounding?
Price per text?
Reception?

Are calls to users in the same network cheaper than out of network calls?

If you go in Issan or in the center of Thailand it's generally felt that DTAC is not as good as 1-2 Call. But 1-2 Call have more costumers and sometimes the network gets busy.

In the big cities, there is no difference between the operators, but I've heard some bad reviews about True Network.

Have a look sometimes in the DTAC/1-2 Call website, they offer some good promotions and some tips you can use with you number, like some cheaper rates with one favourite number etc...

I've used DTAC for years mainly because if you top up with 800 baht you get a free 100 baht. They've changed that now so the 100 free only counts to people you call on DTAC and lasts 30 days! Who the fuck knows what network everyone else is on? Not me.

Dunno about prices but it's damn cheap. SMSs are almost free! 009 numbers are cheap as are all other ones I've used. My phone bill is probably about 200 baht a month.

I've only ever used 1-2 Call so I don't know shit about DTAC...

In fact I have no idea what the per minute costs is for 1-2 Call...

But I have never ever had a problem making a call or getting online when I use my
phone as a modem no matter where I am in Thailand...and that includes some extended
trips to Yasothon...

One strange thing however,  when I lived if Northern California I could receive calls and
messages but I could not make a call or send a message...

Since I have been spending time in Southern California I can receive and make calls and
receive and send messages...Just another California mystery I suppose...

However, I do get charged baht for both receiving and making calls and receiving and sending messages...

I've only ever used 12Call and I've always been a happy customer.

There are 1 or 2 different promos going on all the time.

You can also use 009 or 005 (+ country code + local Number) to make cheap calls to your home country (I assume this works for Dtac as well?).

One additional kinda sorta strange but very nice thing I have experience
with 1-2 Call this trip...Several times I have received the "you're running
out of baht" notice and forgot to top off, but when I did I noticed the new
baht available was actually less than I added...Apparently they allow you
to continue to operate for a bit with a zero balance in your account...

1-2-Call offers SIM-Cards that are valid one more year from the moment you top up. These cards cost 500 baht instead of the usual 300 baht. But from then you do not have to worry any longer about your SIM-Card expiring after 3 months.

The possibility to extend up to one year by just paying a few baht seems to be another advantage of 1-2-Call.

Costs are so low I just do not care about the actual price per minute.

I've been using DTAC for the past 4 years. As stated above you lose it a bit up north. All the locals I work with laugh when they see me trying to gt a signal west of Chiang Mai, they all have one to call. I'm sure there must be a way for me to send and receive smss in Malaysia and Singapore but I haven't worked out how to set international roaming on the phone and am not even sure if I can. It works fine in Phuket so I'll stick with it. It's a shame it can't be set up to receive SMSs from HAPPY in English as I'm sure I miss lots of free offers.

Ive been a happy DTAC customer since 2004 with the same number throughout, always regularly top it up so have 6 or 12 months life on it, every time i bugger up or lose the sim card they replace it easy enough F.O.C. No Complaints from me..
