  • Good dual-SIM phone

Seems like the selection among major handset manufacturers is quite slim (i.e. Nokia doesn't even make them), but they are apparently quite popular among the local knock-off makers. I checked on SIAMPHONE.com and there's a bunch of different brands. I wanted to see if anyone uses a dual SIM phone, which model, and if they'd recommend it. Thx!

Samsung makes the Duo or 880 which is the only legit maker that has one on the market right now that I know of.

I've seen a few models but I can't remember what they are.

You'd think this would be a no brainer for a phone company, but it seems not.

I have tried the usual phone suppliers here in the UK for the Samsung and you would of thought I was asking for a mobile with two heads, they did not have it or had never heard of the Samsung Duo twin sim .

Be careful of what you buy, there are two kinds of dual-SIM phones.  The cheaper ones have you switch between the SIMs (but only one SIM is active at a time, so it has very limited usefulness) and the more expensive ones that is really like carrying two phones.

Personally, I carry two phones, one mainly for regular use and one for girls/nightlife acquaintances but that one is a very small, cheap one that is turned off when I am not out.

Just like those knock-off Nokia phones Franck was selling in 131 last year for 10,000 THB each

I had hoped to avoid those Chinese ones...they can use dual SIMs usually, but the voice quality (and build quality of the phones) leaves a lot to be desired. Also, features-wise, they often lack basic features or are just crappy.

On a side note, it seems that LG and Samsung are entering the market. There is a touch-screen Samsung D980, which is a mirror of the Tocco 480, but it can carry 2-sims. Unfortunately, it's a limited phone meaning it's not going to be carried by any mobile providers and therefore not available with any subsidies. Also, not a lot of places online seem to carry it.

Another option is the upcoming LG KS 660, which is one I may actually consider. 5MP camera w/ flash, 3" touch-screen, 160MB internal memory with mSD support up to 8GB, music player, and a host of other nice features. Only thing it lacks is 3G and wi-fi, but oh well, can't have your cake and eat it too!

i have three sims so my private i use a normal phone (iphone) and bought a Wellcom w389 in Bk, works just great

                      It cost 4900 baht.

The only problem is the disco light when it rings, but i will soon find out how to switch em off or pry em out.

It works great, stylus (Pda style) and more importantly the signal is great.

Thx for the heads-up. I checked around and Wellcom is one of the better local brands. Glad to hear you give the phone a pretty good thumbs-up. They look nice on the web page, but unsure about them once you actually hold one in your hand. I'm not a brand whore, but I do think getting an LG or Samsung one would suit my needs better (although not my pocketbook). I should get one within the month so I'll post which model I got and a brief review so anyone else looking for a dual SIM phone can consider it.

On a side note, dual SIM is really nice and probably more of a necessity in LOS!

Stupid ignorant non-techie phone user here. With phones under B1500 why not just get 2 phones?

Would you rather carry 1 phone or 2? Also, those are the cheapie low end throw-away handsets. Not to be a phone snob, but I don't mind a decent 2MP cam to take quick pics/vids when I don't carry my camera with me, the ability to play music allows me to junk an MP3 player, and bluetooth is a feature that everyone should be using in 2009.

In short, I guess having two cheap handsets does the trick if all you want to do is make calls...
