For me all the troubles in Thailand and the world economic downturn are actually perfect.
My partner and I are investing in a tourist business (I'm not going to say exactely what) with an opening date due mid to late 2010. With all the problems this year the tourism industry is going to be very hard hit. With the economic problems in 2009 this will also effect the tourism industry in Thailand. The result is going to be alot of my smaller competitors are going to be going out of business.
Provding that the troubles in Thailand don't continue for to long tourist numbers should start to recover somewhat by late 2010.
This is going to be a big advantage for me as one we will have less competitors. We will be cashed up while most of the other tourist business's will be cash starved due to 2 poor years. We will be able to afford to do promotions that our competitors won't be able to match. Finally since there should be less tourist shops and associated business's shop leases should be less and give me and my partner a better deal.
So even in the darkest of hours there is a bright side
