Thai Immigration changes the rules for all foreign
Forget importing a car under all circumstances - this is the regional hub of car production in SE Asia - why would they make it easy to import a car? Even BMW which has a plant here has countless issues importing certain elements of the vehicle and they have FULL BOI status. A little known fact is that most diplomats DONT bring cars in - they are however allowed to buy them here with much lower taxation provided the car is then exported back to their home country when they leave. Thats why most diplomats are driving around in Toyota Camry's which are made here. Embassy's can brig in vehicles - but again many do not bother - its just too much red tape, lack of spare parts etc etc and they have the diplomatic bag procedure (which DOES apply to cars), the problems begin when they need to get a number plate for it.....
By the way, the One Stop centre is only for senior emloyees of BOI approved firms and companies with capital and recorded assets in excess of 30,000,000baht - its not for the average work permit application. It is a very good service to use, but you need to meet that criteria before you can use it.
You should talk to a well versed farang lawyer who practices in Thailand. This would not be cheap - but that is where you will get the best common sense advice. If you want some contacts, I know some good guys but as I say they are not cheap but they are very familiar with the rules and how to achieve the best result and also to suggest what is smart and not smart to do.
Thank you Mardhi, you and Stogie are right - I checked some more sources about car import, and it seems Schenker/Stinner made a mistake in their document.
Apparently, the right to pay approx 230% duties on my car is the only priviledge a work permit will give me in regard to importing a car...
